Thread: Good read on Tim Thomas...

Thomas needs a save to restore his legacy - Boston.com

It can still end well here for Tim Thomas. Right now, the Facebook-posting, self-imploding goaltender is shoulder to shoulder with Curt Schilling and Manny Ramirez regarding how Boston will remember him. Not just as a player, but as a person, a key player-citizen in what is the unique nation of Boston sports.

Through a trio of Facebook postings issued over the course of 19 days, the 37-year-old Thomas has told the world that he wants to be heard. He feels the need to get his thoughts out there, and we are left to believe he wants to stimulate thought and conversation.

But he doesn’t want the media talking to him about it, and he told a gaggle of reporters, bloggers, and photographers Thursday at the Bruins practice facility in Wilmington that he’ll simply stop talking whenever he is asked about the personal beliefs he is posting for the world to see...

regardless of which side of the fence you're on here, or whether or not you share his political and social views, Thomas definitely seems to have one foot in his mouth and the other up his ass, and i agree with the writer that he shares a lot in common with guys like Schilling and Manny Ramirez.

The only plausible scenario that I see Tim coming from and this reporter objecting to is Tim is making personal statements. He's using the avenue of facebook to do it. This reporter is upset that he can't walk into the bruins locker room and interview a bruins player about this stuff happening on facebook. I can see Tim thinking there's a separation of who he is when he's wearing a jersey vs when he's sitting at home and I'll even cut him some slack to own up to who he is if he ever develops an avenue to go out and be a public figure. (granted the white house deal is hard to get around, but frankly the team didn't discipline him)

Is TT likely an asshat that wants it his way when it comes to his opinions, sure aren't we all. Giving the press a free pass to ask about any and all things public in a team environment though, well I'd be willing to cut timmy a little slack on that. This reporter has access to ask these questions only because of his team access, it's not personal access granted by Tim Thomas to talk specifically about this.

Once again the media is making much ado about nothing. I bet Harvey Levin is chomping at the bit for an interview.

This is a blatent attempt to shut him up. He forgot that if you have a different opinion than the mainstream liberal media you will be destroyed all costs. He personal beliefs have nothing to do with how well he stops the puck.

News is a couple of days old now, but Tim Thomas finds himself in the middle of controversy once again.

Bruin players are none too happy to be asked questions about TT's political beliefs/posts. One recently evidently said something along the lines of 'he's not a teammate, I don't have to talk about him anymore' I can imagine his teammates hate having to respond to questions about TT, whether they agree with him or not.

Regardless of his political views, why would anyone want this guy on their team?

Every time he posts something on Facebook it causes a public relations firestorm and it puts his teammates in an awkward situation because they're unwillingly dragged into it.
