Graham James only gets 2 years in prison?

Graham James, former Canadian ice hockey coach for the Western Hockey League (WHL) was sentenced today and received only 2 years in prison for sexually abusing former NHL hockey player Theo Fleury and another hockey player that James coached.

Are you kidding me? Only 2 years?

James sexually abused these hockey players hundreds of times when they were children. Mind you this is his second sentence from the new charges from Theo Fleury and his cousin Todd Holt. The judge said that his sentence was reduced since he went through rehab. James first sentence was when Sheldon Kennedy (another former NHL player) came forward in the 1990s and he received 6.5 years in prison.

So a total of only 8.5 years in prison for sexualy abusing young children while he coached them? That is ****ing horrible.

Honestly if you're not going to go the death penalty route exile is probably the only other punishment that's worthwhile. I don't get the point of prison.

8.5 years in total is actually a lot in Canada. I'm sure that if the charges, which occurred at basically the same time, actually had been pressed at the same time, he would have gotten less than 8.5 years.

What a joke! I have gained so much respect for Fleury and the way he has handled this.

Would have been awesome if they chained him to a goal post (in his underwear) and allowed everyone he abused to take as many slap shots as they want on him.

Interesting article from Vancouver Province writer Ed Willes. He notes how the Graham James case has haunted him for years. According to Willes he says he was told about what was going on 20 years ago but never wrote about it.

Makes you wonder how many people knew or suspected about what was going on but remained silent.

Bernie Lynch, then the coach of the WHL Regina Pats, and I were chatting when the conversation turned to the Swift Current Broncos.

Yeah, that sickens me too. When things like this come out there are always people who knew or suspected something that did nothing. IMO those people should be held responsible for heir lack of action as well. That is why this story and every story like it needs to be told!

Two years? For what he did? I hope there's a lot of outrage in Canada over the judge's decision, not that it will do anything. Disgusting.

I'm sure people knew and probably the people closest to Sheldon and Theo were looking to them for guidance about what to do. What they needed was someone not close to them who got close to the situation and basically said, I think this is wrong, tell me how it's right.
