I'm reasonably sure that Joe really did this to take the press off hertl. He did a fantastic job. now the kid doesn't have to be bothered anymore and can concentrate on the game

First there's a controversy with Hertl's goal(s) and now there's controversy with this quote. And in both cases I don't understand why. For a kid to score 4 goals in his 3rd game is amazing and to score one like he did on that last one is even more so. If they didn't want him showing up anyone then they should've done a better job defending him.

One argument can be made that the reporter shouldn't have released it out of respect for the player. Sure it is their job to report, but I am sure all of these reporters and "insiders" see and hear stuff on a daily basis that we never hear or read about because it isn't appropriate. To me, this was something that didn't need to be made public. I am not sure the situation it was said in, meaning to a group of reporters or a bunch of guys sitting around talking. If it was said during an interview then that was just dumb on Thornton's part.

The kid is at it again. Scored goal #7 tonight against the Senators.
Somebody tell Sutter it's okay to play a 19 year-old at LW on the first line.

I kept thinking, why won't the Kings play their young guys, all these other teams throw their youngs guys in there and let them succeed. Then I remembered, it was Sutter who brought up Nolan and King which was almost as important as the Carter trade to their cup run. I have full confidence in Sutter that he will put the young guys in when he thinks the time is right.

So maybe he really is just a normal human being after all. Or the other teams woke up and are playing him hard now.

The first thing I thought of when I read this tread was, "yea...and Fabian Brunnstrom scored a hat trick on his first rookie game against LA"

Remember when Jean-Gabriel Pageau burst into the NHL?

The NHL is tough when you aren't shooting against Marty Biron.
