Default Hockey gone political (Or was it always there)

Habs issue statement amid controversy over non-french coach

When did playing hockey become secondary to politics?

A bit of trivia - The engravings on the cup are written in either english or french if a canadian team wins the cup. Post your answer on why this is. I will follow up with the answer in a couple days.

Interesting question. I viewed the cup at the HHOF in Toronto but, I don't remember seeing writing in French. Guess I was just too excited seeing it up close to notice that.

hey taz, yeah i would have never noticed had it not been pointed out to me. the language is dependent on the ruling party for the year of the cup winner. example is if the cup is won this year by a canadian team, the writing would be in french because the government is a french provisional speaking. if it is english provisional, then its engraved in english.

i learned that from phil (he travels with the cup and works at the hhof)

more to the point of the original post, i did not think any thing of it until i saw the article. seems to me that hockey is secondary to the culture and the language thing on the cup just solidifies it.

what did u think of the hhof?

If I was the coach I would let them ask me questions in french then go off on some wild response that had nothing to do with their question.

more turmoil for another team. im hoping that there are a few teams that sink below (habs, canes, jackets) the quacks so that at least there is a better chance the quacks don't end up with the numebr one pick

It took an entire day and at that, could have used another day. My only complaint abt it was just way too much devoted to Mr. Gretz. But, that was just me.
I loved seeing all the old masks, the uni's and the film clips they had. The trophy room was amazing. The line circling around the Stanley cup, sitting there under that multi colored glass dome was beautiful and a perfect way to show it. Was an experience never to be forgotten by a true hockey fan.

I can just imagine what happens when the league moves the Coyotes to Puerto Rico.
