All these NHL writers have sources, but the sources have motives. However it was told to me that DL did not exactly wheel out the welcome wagon for IK. Usually these kinds of free agent deals are a sales job, but DL wasn't sold on IK.

As a result, all New Jersey needed to do was keep raising the offer. New Jersey is trying to win now - Dean is trying to build the next New Jersey. Dean wanted to get IK on his own terms - Lou was under orders to get IK. Kovy was ours if we wanted him, but we didn't want him enough. We'll be okay.
This also jives with the fact that New Jersey had to offer more, not equal to the Kings (and by a significant margin).

And especially if their hall of fame goalie is a season or two away from retirement and his last couple playoff series have been a bit lackluster comparitively.

I'm not sold on ik either. He's only been in the playoffs twice? He might not be a big game player. I question his heart too. I wouldn't sign him cuz we risk losing our young guys later on. IMO he's not worth it.

Will he win a cup in nj? I don't think so.
