It may be an overpayment but I don't mind the signing for Carolina's POV. If my math is correct, Semin helped them get over the cap floor. Also, lets see if he meshes well with either Staal and earns himself an extention. If Semin's a bust or the Canes are sellers at the deadline, they can use him for a nice return. I'm not a fan of this guy but I still feel this is a win-win signing for the Canes.
History has shown plenty of times that teams pay for a rental... In other sports too. Personally, I think with the Canes additions this summer they'll probably be in playoff contention in February. If they're out of it they'll be plenty of GM's calling Rutherford about Semin and they usually overpay at the trade deadline.
