    Default John Ahlers anti-gay comment

Did anyone watch the Ducks game Saturday vs Nashville and hear what good ole Johnny blurted out?

During a pile-up infront of the Preds net, Ahlers refers to it as remembering the times of playing "Smeer the Queer"

I think we all played the game at one point or another as kids. Gang tackling the guy with the football and dog piling. It was fun as a kid.

I hate Ahlers and Hayward more than anyone and I have made multiple posts about those dickwads. So yesterday I called the Ducks and complained that his remarks were derogatory and homophobic. Saying I was going to have the gay community stand outside their Home Opening red carpet ceremony Wednesday.

I would love to have this guy canned or repremanded in some form or another.

If anybody wants to voice their opinion to the Ducks here is the lady's # 714-704-2412, her name is Mary and she is in the media relations department.

As much as I hate the Ducks Duo, I also hate when people try to make something out of nothing.

Should he have phrased it different? Perhaps. However that is the name of the game that i'm sure anyone here has played as a boy growing up. Saying a dogpile reminds him of playing "Smear The Queer" as a kid is hardly a anti-gay comment.

Queer hasn't/isn't always a derogatory term.

    1. strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different; singular: a queer notion of justice.

    2. of a questionable nature or character; suspicious; shady: Something queer about the language of the prospectus kept investors away.

    3. not feeling physically right or well; giddy, faint, or qualmish: to feel queer.

    4.mentally unbalanced or deranged.

When I was a kid is was dogpile. I've never heard of "Smear the Queer". But, if you don't think that the name "Smear the Queer" is spreading hate then you are in a fantasy land. Just this week there have been a few deaths because of things like this. it's all over the news. It's like using the "n-word", there's no excuse for hatred because "that's what everyone says".

I watched the game and didn't hear anything. I also cannot stand those two so I totally tune them out. That way I never hear anything they say and so have nothing to object to. We all know the rules of hockey so we don't really need those two biased fools. Listen to your ipod.

We used to call it "smear the queer" growing up and my first thought was this is a non-issue. However, after reading RR's thoughts I realize I need to rethink my stance.

I respectfully disagree, the word Queer is so much different than the N word. I know there are people who use the word Queer as a derogatory term towards gay people, however, I have never associated that word with gay people. I can see how people would be offended, but i think it would be MUCH worse if it was "Fa****".

I dunno, maybe it's just me I guess. I think our society today is too sensitive and always trying to make something out of nothing.

Like I said, maybe he should have used a different term BUT he was simply saying it reminded him of a game from his childhood. It was not meant in a derogatory way.

After all it is well known that the Ducks organization is very much gay friendly by employing Corey Perry.

Just for the record, it would be just as insensitive if a Kings announcer had said it. Also, if someone calls me a queer I'm not going to interpret it as them saying I am unique or quirky. Saying it on an afternoon game on a holiday when lots of youth are watching is just perpetuating the stupidity to another generation. I hope they are proud.

It was smear the queer for us when we were kids. I didn't even know what a queer was.

its one thing to spread hate, its another to take a common saying when you are a kid and blurt it out. Do you really think his intent was as an anti-gay slur and he should be fired because of it? If it was, sure he should be fired.

If it wasn't his intent, should he be corrected? absolutely. But to go after a person's family's livelihood if it was an innocent mistake because there is an agenda against the person's homerism during the broadcast of a sport on TV?
