I disagree. He has the skill and work ethic to be a top 9 guy and his time with Kadri proved that. The question is whether he'll work hard and if his knee is ok. In that sense, you're right that he'll be fighting to stay in the NHL - but it's got nothing to do with his skill or ability.

DL got a top 6/9 forward, a quality back up and a 2nd. i would have loved a player and a first but that was a stretch.

it was better than Lindback, better than Bishop - not as good as Varlamov but by all accounts that was a total overpayment.
    Actually I remember you suggesting/hoping that we would get a 1st/2nd and a top 6 player or a top-9 + first.

I wish we could gotten a top-6 and a 1st/second . I'm always wary of the talking heads over-hyping players. They did the same thing with Voynov aka he's a 6 million dollar player. First off, he's not bionic and second Slava was still a RFA with the Kings controlling years.

JT pretty much nailed the return on the head-- a decent 3rd line forward and a 2nd round pick, plus an inexpensive backup goalie. For all of Bernier's pedigree he fetched the expected return for a guy with great promise but also who was drafted 7 years ago and has not taken the starters job. Dean did a very good job of getting a nice set of players/picks in return but he didn't fleece anyone for a first and a top-6 forward.

Is he competing with King? Clifford? (he's 2,3 years older than both)
Is he a better prospect than Toffoli?
    I legit don't know.

He's definitely better than King, so he can easily beat him out.

Also, wonder what this means for Lewis and Nolan (both RFAs).

Cheaply replace penner with a solid winger, solve the backup situation with a pretty good goalie, grab a future 2nd round pick.

but most importantly, if that $500K is enough to resign Scuderi and everyone else, what more could Lombardi have accomplished?
Yup, didn't have a whole lot of leverage and got a 3rd line forward and backup that should both be serviceable - still have some room under the cap to finish off the lineup.

i was hoping for a little more established top-6 player. and if not, then something like Read and a first would have been nice. i threw around names like Couturier and Grabner and Okposo, but in those cases, i was expecting that Martinez would have to be part of a deal like that.

at no point did JT say Bernier would bring back 3 assets, let alone the cap space.

now, we don't know how good of a deal this is. IF Frattin is a regular in the top-9, Scrivens gives the Kings close to what they got from Bernier plus the $500K of cap space, that's a great deal. plus the 2nd round pick which should be mid-round at worst.

i think mid/late first round picks are overvalued. do we really think 15 spots in the draft is worth more than Scrivens and $500K off the cap and the 2nd?

I would trade DL's haul for Conacher and a 4th in a second! And I'd trade it for two 2nds and a 3rd.

The only thing that might make DL's haul worth more than those other two is the $500k cap space, but that's entirely a function of how he uses it.
yes and yes. i think Frattin and Scrivens is better than a 2nd and 3rd, not to mention the cap space.

and yes, i think Frattin, Scrivens, 2nd and cap space is better than Conacher and 4th. i don't think Conacher is that great. i think Frattin is far better for the Kings than Conacher. i watched Conacher play - he was the beneficiary of playing with St. Louis and Stamkos in TB.

if we want a speedy 5'8" guy, DL can call up Kozun.

Separated the speculation thread to make things easier to digest.

Here is the original trade speculation thread before it actually happened

Default Jonathan Bernier traded to Toronto for Frattin, Scrivens, 2nd in 2014 or 2015

If he takes King's roster spot I'll be happy.

All tho it's tough to do this, my Taje
is Frattin would be worth a late 1st, and Scrivens about a 5th, so it chalks up to be a 1st, 2nd, and 5th for Bernier, greater return than Varlamnov.
