this trade is fine. i think the issue that folks might be having with this trade is that toronto didnt give up anything except depth. for fans who see the starter that jb could become, that's a tough pill to swallow. however, on this team, the kings are also only giving up depth.

and if you think that it is easy to trade a goalie and get an exceptional knock your socks off deal, then you havent been paying attention to whats been going on in vancouver.
Or the kings would have got an offer sheet they no way in hell c/would have matched and received what a compensatory pick or something

THe option really wasn't get a better deal, keep him or take this deal - we basically traded a guy that was leaving by hook or by crook.

You can save this post to give me crap later, but here is my fearless prediction and I am usually right 50% of the time. This is not taking into account injuries, trades for other needs, or good forbid death of player.

Scrivens will play 1 year as backup...he will be serviceable and do well enough so we can rest Quick. But after this 1 season unless he is willing (and played well enough) to take about the same or just slightly more in salary, he'll be gone.

Frattin will turn into a Penner type player, but playoff Penner, but not just in the playoffs. He'll be playoff Penner all season long. He'll hit, he'll do the dirty work, he'll be a good third liner and he'll be a valuable asset to this team and he'll average 12-15 goals a season over the next few years. And I believe Dean will re-up him when in 2014 when his deal is up.

The 2nd round pick will be traded to another team for either a couple of lower picks or for another player...or when we use it it will be someone that will barely sniff the NHL. In other words if we pick a player with it it will be a wasted pick.

Bernier will play ok in Toronto. He will get wins and help them win but with their defense he will be exposed a little and his GAA will go up, while his Save % will go down. Although as Toronto can score they will win games, just like 5-4, 4-3 etc...

These are my fearless predictions and after a reasonable amount of time, say 2, 3 or 4 seasons, you will see how accurate I am. Either very, or not even close.

"Obviously I'm very excited," Bernier told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun. "Going to Toronto I think is a great challenge. It's great. They've got a really good young team, and hopefully I can fit in and have some success with them."

Kings general manager Dean Lombardi promised Bernier after the season that he would make his best effort to trade the goaltender so that he would have a better chance at playing games.

"I was very happy -- Dean is a man of his word," Bernier told ESPN.com. "I felt he would keep it, and he did. All the teams in the mix were great teams, but I have to tell you I'm so happy that it's Toronto."

Honestly, I feel like Bernier's reaction is very important to the Kings organization. Similar to what DL did with Gagne. Showing players he will work with them, when possible, to help them achieve their goals. I think it makes the Kings a much more attractive team for UFA's, etc.

The change in the culture of the organization since DL came on board has changed 180 degrees. I think thats been his biggest contribution of all.

Sounds like they need my created player in NHL 13, averages 60 goals a season, scored 98 goals his first year (80 something assists) he wants 10 mil per season though, greedy prick.

Aaaand he's a lefty. Plays both wings, kills penalties, hates Maroon 5, but lets face it, Maroon 5 doesn't even like Maroon 5.

I think the purpose of this trade was to get Bernier to a non contender and a team that cannot do damage to the Kings. I find it hard to believe that Frattin (no one wanted to offer more?). The pick is good but I dunno. Then again who was going to give the Kings the bank? Time will tell
