Granted Schneider is valued more than Bernier, but I got to think that the 7th overall was available for Lombardi given their pursuit of JB and CS's previously thought-of unavailability.

With all due respect to Frattin, Scrivens, a second-round pick, and $500,000 in cap space, I'd much rather have the 7th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft even if we had to throw in an Alec Martinez. With the 7th overall, we could have possibly packaged Kyle Clifford for a shot at 3rd overall for Jonathan Drouin.
So lemme see if I understand you right. You think that DL was offered the 7th overall pick and he turned it down to take the Leafs' offer instead?

...and all it would have taken to move from the 7th to the 3rd would be the 7th and Kyle Clifford....

Yes...and then the Kings take the 3rd pick along with Alec Martinez and move up to #1. Easy peasy.

Wow...I didn't know it was so easy to be a GM nowadays. I'm clearly in the wrong profession.

    9th for Schneider?

That is the type of return that should have happened.

I will do you one better. Add in the 2014 1st and we could have moved back to the 1st in 2005 and got Crosby. Time Travel Gm beats today GM every time.

I think it kind of depends on which goalies, doesn't it? Quick would. JB clearly couldn't.

Yes, and I as Kings' GM win 12 Stanley Cups because I keep every draft pick the Kings had in the 1970s. You can come see my wing at the Hockey HOF anytime you like....

Well, Schneider just got 9th overall from New Jersey when Edmonton offered 7th+ for him, so yeah, I don't think it was out of the realm of possibility that Dean could have gotten 7th overall for Bernier (and Alec Martinez possibly) since Bernier was arguably the best goaltender at the time with multiple teams in pursuit and no inkling to reasonably think Cory Schneider would be available later on. Even if Deano wasn't offered 7th overall at the time, it looks like he could have gotten it had he waited until the draft.
