Even if Deano wasn't offered 7th overall at the time, it looks like he could have gotten it had he waited until the draft.
What was it about the draft SPECIFICALLY that made a deal better? I'll bet you can't find any reason whatsoever.

People just need to get over the FACT Schneider (I've been spelling that wrong...lol) today is worth a bit more than JB. Sorry...but true.

I would agree with that, but no one knew he was available. If NJ was that desperate to get a goalie...the best option for them was/is Bernier.

You obviously have a very skewed idea of what value truly is in the NHL.

What would you think of the Kings trading the 7th overall for Mason/ Gustaffson from Philly.

How many back-to-back games has Bernier started in his career? How many playoff starts? The fact is that Bernier has been a backup and a backup only until now. He looks like he could be the real deal, and he very well might be.

But the only reason that the Canucks moved Schneider was that they couldn't afford to buy out Luongo and no one else wanted Luongo's contract. If either of those things could've happened, then Schneider would be the Canucks' #1 because they believe (and apparently so do the Devils and Oilers) that Schneider is a proven #1 they they could build around on the move.

AND, I would agree with this as well. Value for Value, JB is definitely the better choice. Meaning they could have got him for less than the 9th overall.

Apparently, so do you if you're comparing Jonathan Bernier to Steve Mason or Erik Gustaffson. While it may not be quite a fair comparison, Mason is closer to Ben Scrivens than Bernier.

That's not true. I've been hearing for a week Schneider was a possibility.

Also, if the Kings waited until today and that other trade does NOT happen the Kings will be up against an RFA offer sheet from another team (possibly TOMORROW). That would bring the Kings a 2nd rounder at best.

Really? You should go look at the stats for all three and get back to us. Mason has played 239 games. Bernier? 62. And Scrivens?? 32.

You cannot compare Scrivens to Mason. But this shows a little more about how you value the players.

Basically, what you are saying is that an unproven goalie and a 7th dman is worth a 7th overall. It just does not make sense.

So basically you mean to tell me that Steve Mason, who couldn't beat out the recently bought-out Ilya Bryzgalov, is worth the same or more than Jonathan Bernier, who's been groomed to be the organization's #1 goaltender from the day he was drafted only to be beat out by arguably the best goaltender in the world? Is that what you're telling me?!

Ummmm....Mason did beat out Brys. He is still there. Brys got bought out.

Mason was traded from the team where he was playing behind the Vezna winner.

Philly traded for him to compete and eventually take over as the #1. Which he is now.

So....ya, that is what I am saying. What are you saying?

NOW, my opinion....Bernier is the far better choice, by a lot. BUT when we take into consideration what fair market value is on the market...then Bernier is NOT worth a 7th overall even if you add a 7th dman. You know how I know this? We did not draft 7th overall.
