I don't think Toronto needed Bernier as badly as Philadelphia or New York.
I agree with others that why they did does not really concern me, but hazarding a guess I would say it's because Remier has been injured the last couple seasons. Possible concussion, neck injury, sprained MCL...maybe they are concerned about his health so he backs up Bernier and instead of 35-40 starts, he gets 20-25...

    There is no way in hell Frattin + Scrivens + a '14 or '15 2nd rounder = a mid 1st rounder.
it's actually between what we were thinking. i was hoping to get more of an impact player, but three quality assets for one is a good deal no matter how you look at it. it's better than the return of every goalie we talked about except for maybe Varlamov.

and i don't know if it's better than a mid-first. he got a top-9 NHL forward, a quality back up and a 2nd round pick. less upside than a mid-first, but filling two holes in a roster plus a 2nd is a very good return.

I will say the second-round pick in either 2014 or 2015 has a good chance of being in the early portion of that round given Toronto's history of bad asset management. Will the Maple Leafs be able to be build a solid enough defense for Bernier to succeed? They haven't yet.

I'm not sure what is worse. Loaf fans having opinions or Leiweke possibly making personnel decisions. Sounds like an abortion waiting to happen.

I was hoping the Kings would have been able to sneak a first out, but oh well. Good luck to Bernier.

The good news is the Kings got good pieces in return, just not "great" pieces. BUT, the Kings have upgraded Penner at a reduced cap hit, replaced Bernier with a lesser player for a reduced cap hit, and acquired a 2nd round pick to keep the prospect cupboard stocked.

Which grizzled, old veteran goalies are there on the UFA market?

Can you see Scrivens carrying the team if Quick goes down for a few weeks?

DL can worry about that if that actually happens. Scrivens should be fine for 15-20 games a year, if that.
