They were saying on Hot Stove that it was the owners decision not Uncle Lou's to sign Kovy to that big contract.

I'm still glad DL took a serious run at Kovy. I think he could have added a lot to this team, but only at a certain price. I'm happy DL stuck to his value of Kovy and didn't succumb to the pressure of signing the most flashy name out there and tie the hands of the franchise for years to come.

All laughing aside, I really would like to know what the reasoning is behind this? Was it soley due to on ice play? Practice? Mouthing off? What?
Amazing that the Devils had a great game their last game out, and then all of this happens!
I have said it all along, the Devils have "sold their soul" in this deal. I didn't think the negative effects would be so soon but........wow!

There are some people that believe that their ownership group was/is a bit worried about what might happen if Brodeur was to retire and they somehow lose Parise in the next few years. That they were afraid of being left with a big new building and no star players. Whether or not that's better left as a "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it" move remains to be seen.
Some hockey people said last year when he was traded to New Jersey that it was the square peg/round hole situation. Well he's going to be there for a long time, they need to figure out how to make Kovalchuk into a round peg.
