    JJ, Schenn/Simmonds, Teubert, 1st

Unless its sign & trade... NO WAY Lombardo does that for a possible rental. Lombardi is not Taylor.

Now, would I do JJ/Schenn/Teubert/1st for a Kovy thats signed long-term at a contract we can live with... thats essentially 4 1st round picks. And I would probably say YES, I would.

JJ has been mediocore at best. and there's NO guarantee Schenn or Teubert ever become stars. Same goes for the 1st which is probably going to be in the 15-20 range of the 1st round.

Of course, I'd rather offer a different package, something such as:

JJ, Teubert, Purcell, Lewis, 1st, 2nd.

I'd try to keep Schenn if at all possible, and would offer Frolov, but if push comes to shove, I make the deal. Kovy is 26, a bonafide sniper & star player. I'm convinced a player of his quality would be a major difference maker.

If Waddell was smart he would go for younger prospects/high picks and re-build ala Chicago and L.A.
It seems to me they need a whole new identity and maybe Waddell isn't the guy to do it.
The problem with this, even though it MAY be the best course of action, is that the team is struggling to gain support as is, as a result of years and years of mediocrity. You now want to ship off the face of the franchise, and, as a result of that move, lose Armstrong, Kubina, Kozlov and Afinogenov for certain in the off-season and more or less field an AHL team for the next 3-4 years while hoping that THIS time, the prospects and picks will actually pan out in to something competitive? Would YOU pay to be a season ticket holder for that type of product? Hell, I bet the Gladiators over in Gwinnett outdraw the Thrashers in that scenario.

You may offer it, but I don't see any way that Waddell agrees to it. It does not offer up the NHL capable young forward Atlanta wants (don't even try to sell Purcell as such), and, frankly, just too many damn pieces that don't really do much for the Thrashers. Lewis fills no need, and Johnson AND Teubert together are redundant for a team that has young defensemen.

Additionally, I still feel Johnson has little to no value for the Thrashers, despite his ability and upside. They are going to want players they think may buy in and stay there long-term.

I've got a theory on what has to take place before this can all happen, and part of that theory is that Brown or Stoll has to be included in any deal for Kovalchuk.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

The issue I have with all these articles is that their lack of congruity smacks more of speculation than of anything based on solid information. They'll start listening to and comparing offers NEXT week? And all the rumors and speculation over the past two weeks then? What about Lombardi "flying to Atlanta?" I understand where there's smoke there's fire, but there is a whole lot of poo being flung around right now, and I'm not sure any of it can be taken at face value.
