at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Seeing as we are buyers this year, which we haven't been in ages, I just want to know who was the last player we traded for as a buyer? If anyone knows it would be greatly appreciative.
Steve Duchense, and that REALLY worked out!
My only two questions are...
1) Why would we give up roster players for a rental?
2) Why is Atlanta saying that teams cant talk to his agent about an extension? (doesn't that weaken his trade value and does Atlanta think they will be able to resign him after the season is over? It doesn't make sense to me.)
You do realize that Kovalchuck is ranked with those 3 names you mentioned don't you? Hell even SI has Kovalchuck as 2nd team all decade with Ovechkin as 1st team since they both play LW.
He is in the same ballpark as those guys so yes he would be making that kind of money since he is as good as them. Do some research on him first before saying he doesn't deserve that kind of money when in fact he is on that level with them.
