Well, something's gotta give. Personally I hope the Kings stand pat. They are in a good position to make the playoffs, their core of players have good chemistry and stand to gain valuable experience in the post season. Plus if they land in spots 4 to 6 I think they could very well make it out of the first round.

There's just too much risk in trading away good talent when there's no guarantee kovalchuk would stay a King. We all know what happens when the free agency deadline comes along.. teams overspend on rediculous contracts and big name players stay away from LA.

Keep the core group here and make a smart addition here and there. It's not broke so don't fix it.

Personally I don't see it happaning.
Only team that would make sense is Carolina. Flip a couple good prospects to Carolina, who then flip Whitney and Gleason to Atlanta. Our #1 would need to go to ATL and our #2 to CAR.

Tough to see that happening but crazier things have, besides which why not just take Whitney and Gleason and just forget about Kovalchuk altogether?

I saw the same story in the OC Register. I was searching Google News sorted by date on the Kings and that one came up. It really was just a 'hey, why not consider the following' type of thing, no sources or anything that said it was actually being discussed. If I recall it was like the poster above said.. Kings send prospects and a pick to Toronto, Toronto sends a few players to Atlanta, and Atlanta sends Kovalchuk to the Kings.

Maybe in the end that's what it will take to get him moved, but right now everyone is still in the dark on what, if anything, is going to happen.

Yeah, the only way I see the Kings landing Kovalchuk is in a 3 way deal. The Kings getting Kovy, Atlanta getting Frolov and a solid/younger NHL D-Man and maybe a pick, and the 3rd party getting a pick and/or prospect(s) from us. Toronto would be a good fit with Burke not having a 1st round pick in the next couple years, but you know he won't part with Schenn, Phaneuf or Beauchemin. Do you think Kaberle, Fro and a pick will be enough for Atlanta to take the deal?

Yeah but if you pull up to work in your reliable Honda and your boss wanted to give you a new Benz, who wouldn't take it?

If Bruce was involved, this would've been done already.

But if that Mercedes isn't guaranteed to work after this season how you gonna get to work? Just sayin.

I would love to see Kopi dishing to Kovy for a goal 60+ times per year, but he is not worth what he is asking. He might be worth about 20% less than Ovechkin ( or less ). He is not going to get the contract that he is asking for and Waddell is not going to get what he needs in return. They are still in the playoff hunt and he might keep Kovy and hope to sign him in the offseason or do a deal like Florida did with Bouwmeester.

Yeah, agreed, not sure why Atlanta wouldn't just take Schenn, Frolov, Purcell if that would be the case.

I think there's some exaggeration with the notion of the type of roster players going to Atlanta, I've always been led to believe they are looking for young top 6 and top 4 types (a Wheeler, Barker, Versteeg, Simmonds, etc)...some of the names I even see the pundits throwing around (Jokinen? seriously?) really have me scratching my head.
