I'm not too certain how serious DL was about Gaborik. Offering a guy like that a 1-3 year deal doesn't sound too serious, especially when everyone else is getting 5-10 years. "Sure we'll take ya.....for a year"

I have ZERO doubt that he's interested in Kovalchuk, but not at the high cost in both players and money...and IMO that's the right call.

As a practical matter I don't think he's interested at all. But that's because there is ZERO chance that the Thrashers would be interested in what DL would trade them...and also ZERO chance that Kovalchuk would be interested in a contract that fits in the Kings' payroll structure.

And if I'm right about this, I think it's the correct decision.

that and if he's forced into making an open market decision... his boy Marleau (who fits here) or Kovalchuk.

i'd consider betting the house on Patrick.

I think the realistic probability of Kovalchuk being traded to LA is very, very close to zero. He'll cost huge assets, even as a rental. Possibly worth it to a team with real aspirations for the hardware this season. The Kings aren't one of those teams and I imagine would not be willing to give away their future in the hopes that Kovy will re-sign here.

I agree, I just hope Marleau wants to come to LA. He seems like a perfect fit...the #2 center they need until/unless Schenn takes the job and then he moves to LW.
