If he was admittedly very, very interested in Gaborik and Hossa, why would he NOT be interested in Kovy??
Hossa has extensive Stanley Cup playoff experience. That alone puts him in another league.

I'm not too certain how serious DL was about Gaborik. Offering a guy like that a 1-3 year deal doesn't sound too serious, especially when everyone else is getting 5-10 years. "Sure we'll take ya.....for a year"

I have ZERO doubt that he's interested in Kovalchuk, but not at the high cost in both players and money...and IMO that's the right call.
I'm not saying he would decimate the team, it just seems that some people claim he wouldn't be interested at all.

As a practical matter I don't think he's interested at all. But that's because there is ZERO chance that the Thrashers would be interested in what DL would trade them...and also ZERO chance that Kovalchuk would be interested in a contract that fits in the Kings' payroll structure.

And if I'm right about this, I think it's the correct decision.

that and if he's forced into making an open market decision... his boy Marleau (who fits here) or Kovalchuk.

i'd consider betting the house on Patrick.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Unless Wilson wakes up and somehow resigns him. The perfect storm is brewing for us to be able to bring him on board next Summer.

    Let's agree to agree.

Screw Kovalchuk. Marleau or Forsberg (not gonna happen) for me.

I agree. Pick up Marleau and move Handzus or Stoll.

I agree, I just hope Marleau wants to come to LA. He seems like a perfect fit...the #2 center they need until/unless Schenn takes the job and then he moves to LW.

I agree. That's said, it's fun to talk about the hypotheticals.

Marleau I can see coming here definitely. He stepped down as captain and could very well want to test the market.

Plus reading on Spector's website management for the Thrashers spoke about these rumors and said contract talks are going well and is meeting with Kovi agent today.
