    There's a little thing called the cap standing in our way. Nevermind the fact that AEG has NEVER shown themselves to spend to the max, it doesn't make sense to blow a ton of cap space on a winger, even an elite one, given the plethora of young talent we already have and will need to pay to retain.

    Two years from now, the highest paid players on the team should be Doughty and Kopitar. I would be shocked if that isn't the case.

    Kovalchuk will make $8+/season...somewhere else and that team will not win a cup.

    And to include Frolov I don't see happening. Simply because his reputation as a on one night off the next 10 player has caught up to him. To the best of my knowledge Fro didn't make his Russian team and as many of us here besides Frolovian, his worth is dropping...

    Trade Fro for some picks if you have to, but don't count on many teams including Atlanta calling DL and asking for Fro...

    Dean calls Waddell.

    Waddell picks up the phone and says: "Doughty"

    A. Why would Frolov demand or get 7 million a year when players like Camalleri, Getzlaf, Zetterberg, Stastny, Kopitar Fetched under 7 million a year for example. Even your example Hossa isn't having a 7 million dollar a year cap hit. Frolov is coming off back to back lower scoring years and isn't going to fetch a paycheck that is top 20 in the league.

    B. I see no reason DL wouldn't trade Brown for anyone if the deal was right. Hell I wouldn't be shocked if he traded Kopitar if the deal was right. He has stated that over and over for years.

    C. If he can get him to sign a long term contract like all the other teams have been doing with a cap hit of around 5-7 is not out of the question. Yes Hossa's cap hit is at 5.23 million so i'm not crazy.

    How exactly would that make sense for the Kings ? DL would only make a trade that made sense as he has stated.

    DL is not the management from the Past. We don't have to be on the losing side of trades every time. He definitely wouldn't trade the farm for a 30 game rental. He would trade players he didn't see being on the roster in the future though.

    Bernier > Armstrong
    Moller = Christensen
    Teubert = Esposito
    '10 1st rounder = '08 1st rounder
    You are basing things on the worst possible scenario not a baseline. A baseline would be what the median deal for a top player is. This is not the same at all. Heatley statistically,contract wise and every other way to be honest should be on par with Kovalchuck.

    Your trade doesn't seem accurately analyzed or remotely dooable to say the least IMO. Money has to come off the books and your trade isn't going to do that. I don't see DL trading for a big name rental player. However, he has said in the past, if the right situation comes along he will pull the trigger. I think it should look like this in your player value scale. That being said that trade makes no sense from a kings stand point.

    Bernier >>> Armstrong.. Bernier a potential 1A goaltender. Armstrong 3rd line winger
    Moller >> Christensen ... Top 6 potential or at least top 9 and Christensen is a low end 3rd line or a decent 4th liner.
    Teubert >/= Esposito although tuebert is rated higher by the scouts.
    '10 1st rounder = '08 1st rounder = N/A because I don't really see him giving up a first with that many highly drafted players involved.

    Depending if he is a rental or not will heavily influence what he can pull and what pieces need to be traded.

    If you lay it out properly not lopsided as shown , whatever trade is made would involve this. Atlanta is going to have to take back some salary and will want to fill his spot somehow for the next season.
    A combo of players or assets including someone with a non entry level contract would have to come back for 99% of the teams out there.

    Don't think so. Thrashers are not in the position of strength in this negotiation if talks are breaking down. There are no true secrets. There are always planted leaks. GMs know each other's business. However, Kovalchuk just finished building a $5 million house in Atlanta so he has financially demonstrated a commitment to staying.

    don't let you distaste for Frolov deter you from reality. the rationale behind not wanting Alex as part of the return is far FAR simpler than that and has little to nothing doing about his "worth."

    I doubt this is keeping Waddell warm at night. So Kovy'll sell his $5M house for $4.5M and build another $5M house wherever he lands next. Big deal.

    I don't know, but nobody...not even JT said he would. 7 years at 40 million does not equal 7 million a year.

    Kovalchuk for Azevedo, striaght up.

    It's more realistic than most of the other garbage people have offered as "throw ins" for this deal.

    not going to happen btw.....not going to happen.....

    i'm not sure the kings should even try to sign kovy in the summer, but i don't think there is any way they should try and trade for him this year.
    kovy clearly wants to go to UFA and it makes no sense for the kings to give up quality assets for a 2 month rental. i would much rather go get a Ray Whitney who can blend in with our team instead of bringing in Kovy for 2 months and change everything about our team.

    now, if DL wants to inquire over the summer that's fine. i think he should, but i am sure the asking price will be too high.

    i would love to see Kovy in LA, but i just don't see it happening. unlike some folks, i do think Kovy would work here if the finances worked out, but i don't think they will.
    there are too many other teams willing to pay through the nose to get him and DL is too smart to make that kind of move.

    DL's priority will be to sign Doughty to a long-term deal and pick up an enforcer-type that actually can play hockey to replace #41. i'd like to see the kings pick up some sandpaper for the fourth line for next year or even for the stretch run this year.
