Regarding the goalie portion of the case, thankfully Dean already got the opportunity to experiment on another team first in a similar case. ::COUGH:: Nabokov ::COUGH:: Kiprusoff ::COUGH:: Toskala ::COUGH::
Absolutely it's a gamble and one for once the Kings are in a position to make. The Kings are finally in a position to win long term and that's what's been missing the last 5-6 years which has killed getting good players to sign here in the last 5-6 years.
I think the key to the deal is what Kovalchuk has told Wadell behind closed doors. Does he want to resign and help Atlanta contend or has losing so much over the years made him want to get out and start fresh anywhere else but Atlanta? That to me is what will drive Wadell into whatever final destination this goes too. I mean the Kings are one of maybe 4-5 teams who can take on that kind of salary AND have the assets so although there should be other players probably only 2-3 teams can even entertain this type of deal so the Kings should be the frontrunners.

I just like Brown and think he is the type of guy who will be a playoff stud. He is signed to one of the least threatening bargain contracts in the league. He seems to be a hard worker and a great teammate. You don't trade these guys.
BTW I saw him walking on water the other day too.
Another thing to consider is, despite Brown not scoring points these days (I still blame Purcell)... IF Brown is traded, the Kings become a fairly soft team.
You'd have Simmonds on offense that plays physical, Parse, and then what Greene and Johnson and that is it?
I still agree that talent outweighs toughness, but that has to be considered as a factor.
The Kings do play better when they come out physical. Which can be said about most of the NHL. Checking causes turnovers which creates scoring chances.
this will be massive thread.
and... Kovy will never end up with the Kings.
If Dean is telling you the "truth" (he has been known to say one thing and then do the other) then I would really think different of him. First he goes hard after Hossa, but can't get him(IMO Kovy is a better player then Hossa) He doesn't go after Gaborik (even though at that price I didn't mind) then he doesn't trade for Heatley (look at his stats right now with Thorton) Now he doesn't want to go after Kovy!!! These type of players don't come around that often, especially to the Kings. If he is available you have to go after him.
