He beat both of his Team USA co-netminders in shootouts in the span of about a week.

So much for being a lock for bench duty.

i'm not sure there is a bigger kopitar fan than i am but he needs a partner. malkin/crosby, zetterberg/datsyuk, kopitar/?.

and maybe my math is wrong but i don't believe $8M is 20% of $56M. $8M is 14% and $9M is 16%. both are a lot different than 20%.

i think kopitar can be a 100 point guy but not a 50 goal guy. this team needs a 40 goal guy and i would sacrifice a little depth up front to get it.

no player can be expected to do it alone - kopitar played with richardson and simmonds tonight. i like both players but neither will ever be mistaken for goal scorers.

kopitar is a creative player and i think he'd flourish with a little room out there. he showed it to an extent with smyth early in the year but smyth isn't a sniper - he's a mucker.

we'll see what kovy fetches at the deadline but if he goes somewhere else and the price isn't very high in trade i'll be disappointed that DL didn't at least take a shot.

and i think it's too easy to focus on Kovy's attitude - it can't be easy to play on a team for nearly 10 years and only make the playoffs once (we should know). a change of scenery might be exactly what he needs.

plus he's never played with a talented center like kopitar - it might make for a great match. there's nothing like scoring to motivate a goal scorer.

Correction. AFAIK, in 2005, Kovy played on a line with Savard and Hossa. Which really isn't that bad, is it? They had close-to-100 points each.

PS: Looking at wikipedia...they were Southeast Division champions in 2006-2007 without a "supreme center". Bobby Holik, Eric Belanger, Metropolit and Rucchin. ZOMG. The only players that were doing something offensively were Kovalchuk, Hossa and Kozlov.

Man, some of the trades I hear you guys saying are soo far fetched for Kovalchuck..

Man, don't you know the wealth of prospects this team has, and DL has talked to DW more than once now on what type of contrct he wants, length wise and money wise, and also where he would like o he moved too.

I've read through the threads and post and some of the trade offers are freaking nutz.

Here is what Atlanta would go for...and what I have heard from a few HNIC Analyst..

THey based this on Alanta's wants and needs for their team, and what is best for the teams future.

LA will have to give up their 2010 and 2011 1st Round Pick, Jack Johnson, and Jonathan Bernier...

You have to remember if they can't get the guy signed, they have to get something that will be reasonable enough that they can start off with a half decent base. Thats why they would want a solid Defensemen to go along with some of their other good D prospects, like Dimitri Kulikov, who they drafted last year in the 1st round, and right now, Atlanta has no #1 goalie, so they would want a goalie for sure, and the two 1st round picks, are what they are, 1st round picks, and could turn into anything. I honestly think they would want player who can play now, and a good one at that, and the picks. They may want to go down the forward route too, and ask for Oscar Moller instead of Johnson, and ask for Thomas Hickey, Byraden Schenn, and only one 1st round pick instead of 2.

So heres the 2 deals that we could give them, and for Kolvachuck, Heck yes I would do it.

    Deal 1: 2010 1st Round PICK, 2011 1st Round Pick, D - Jack Johnson, G- Johnathan Bernier

Deal 2: 2010 1st Round Pick (Or 2011, their choice of which one), Oscar Moller, Thomas Hickey, Byraden Schenn...or they might want Voyonov instead of Hickey..

Moller could very easy turn into Frolov too, but then they would only get the 1 prospect, Schenn, Hickey, or Voyonov, and they are for sure gonna take our 2010 pick, because we are only gonna bebetter in 2011, espically if we sign Kovalchuck...

Remeber, Toronto friggin gave up two first round picks for Phil Kessel, and both of them are most likely to be lottery picks, and even better top 5 or top 3 picks. Kovalchuck is 5 times the player Kessel is, Kessel can shoot, but nothing like Kovalchuck, Kovalchuck can score in any which way, he has a booming one timing slapshot off the wing on the Powerplay. He has lightning speed, and rush the puck down the ice for a scoring chance and if he misses and he just as fast wheel back down and brak up a scoring chance. He is the completele package and can and will be very verbal , once he gets to know his team. I tell you, if we do land him, and havy Ryan Smyth Healthy, and stick him in front of the net on the PP. You got Doughty, who can play defense with anyone, but I would love to give Voynov a chance at some point, because I just don't think Jack Johnson is what we thought he was. Vyonov had a real solid rookie season with Manchester, and this season with the Monchars, he is one of the best defenseman in the AHL.

Anyways, I had my say...and I think we have a 75% chance of landing him. And if your a hockey fan, you have to know 1 thing, to win a cup, you dont need a SUPERSTAR goalie, just a constinent goalie, and one that can stay hot, and not let in sloppy goals. But the things that you do need are, You need atleast 1 Superstar Defensemen, and atleast 2 Superstar Forwards.

We already have our SuperStar Dman in Doughty, and hes only 20. We have one peice of our superstar forward, Kopitar, and hes only 22. Get Kovalchuck, who is 27, and in 2011 or 2012, DOUGHTY IS 22, KOPITAR IS 24, and KOVALCHUCK IS 29, and they are now learned to play together, and Jonathan Quick has 3 years more experience, remember, this is only Quick's 2nd full season, and look at what he is doing, the same with Doughty. If we can get Super Star Calibur player like Kovalchuck, within 2 - 3 years, WE can not only win the cup, but win it 2 or 3 times. Guess what....Alexander Semin and Kovalchuck are Mates, and are real close. Semin won't sign a long term deal, and I hear he doesn't get along well with Mr. Rat Face Ovechkin. Thats why they asked him to sign a long term deal, and he said no, and signed a 1. So after next year, he is a free agent, can you imagin Kovalchuck convincing him to come here. Ryan Smyth contract will be up by then, but I think he would stay for a small price, because in the playoffs, that guy is a warroir. Anyways, just my 2 cents, bash it, love it, hate it, anyways, im only speaking my mind and the truth.

I would hate to see Bernier or Schenn go. I think there can be a deal without having to move either of them. We still need a 1b center and I strongly feel Schenn can be that guy, and Bernier is grooming to be elite and that is something we can't afford. Yeah Quick is playing great but Bernier I feel will be a lot better.

Overall your post is pretty much what I have been thinking, lets see...

Deal 1: Moller fills that Bernierīs spot, and letīs put Jones in there too they donīt need a goalie, but we do.

Deal 2: Keep Schenn, loktionov or JJ in

Deal 3: some used hockey equipments for Souray
