Other contracts have a couple years at around a million a piece.

Kovlachuk's has several years at league minimum.

Specifically, one year at $750K then five years at $550K.

I'm not too familiar with the other contracts but I'm wondering how many of them had the player playing for league minimum at the end of it and for so many years.

None of the other contracts were this extreme, and that's why it was rejected.

The last 6 years are 750k for one year, and then 5 at 550k. If each of those go up to 1 million, that's and extra 2.5 million on the contract.

    104.5 / 17 = 6.15 cap hit, but he's still "playing" til he's 44.

Speaking of that I don't understand why they had to wait to see where IK went to make that deal. Niether of those teams were in the hunt for IK so why wait?

True, but the intent of all of those contracts are the same, which is to lower the cap hit.

This really showa what a tool Bettman is. We all knew how this contract was going to look. He waits three weeks to do something? I feel this is a warning shot more than anything. I fail to see how the league can prove this.
