    Prediction:

NHL agrees not to fine NJ. (Still shows NHL as top dog.)
NJ agrees not to dispute. (No Fine. Whee!)
NJ and Grossman reapply with new contract. (about 14y @ 96 with payments prorated to match Hossa's contract as it tapers off.)
    IK signs new contract.
Everybody steps back from the brink.

Everyone begins to study the starting bargaining points for the new CBA: such as; $48 mil cap vs a franchise player designation; such as, total contract years limited as a function of a players age; such as each team has a limited number of AAV versus actual average salary contracts.

Dude, he said what Grossman told him to say, nothing more.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Via NY Post: It does not seem likely that circumvention penalties, such as suspensions or hefty fines, $1-5 million for the team and $250G-$1 million for the player, would apply in this case of an initial contract submission voided over a previously-unspecified issue.

If Lou "knew" the deal wasn't going to pass, he wouldn't of told grossman or kovi would he? And if he kovi didn't know, his whole opinon of the org and "sweet uncle lou" would totally change and he would prob have more respect now for Dean and co as our offer is basic and take it or leave it.

If you want to make it seem like it isn't about the money (it is) and you believe you're set for the rest of your career in NJ, again, no problem with those comments.

If he believed there was even a small chance this contract would be nullified I bet he would have chosen his words a lot more carefully.
Which begs the question - how pissed is he if Jersey didn't tell him they knew the contract was going to be rejected? They definitely knew before the PC, and if EJ Hradek is to be believed, they knew even before he signed on the dotted line.

Which possibly leads me to rethink my earlier statement about NJ just getting a slap on the wrist. If the NHL told them not to do the deal, they went ahead and did the deal anyway, they may be very tempted to throw the book at them, assuming they win the arbitration.

Agree except that NHLPA will file a grievance. No need to do new contract if arbitrator agrees with players.

Rejecting the contract is a pretty strong message considering this is the NHL we are talking about. If there is any penalty / fine, I see the minimum of $1M, and it is a slim chance IMO

And what if Grossman knew and didn't tell him either?

Like I said, I don't see Kovy a King unless Grossman is fired, and their is no grievance filed.

NJ has no right to dispute, only the NHLPA has the right, which they are expected to exercise.

If Grossman knew and didn't tell Kovy it will come out eventually, and that will be the end of his career as an agent, not to mention subject him to a multimillion dollar suit from Kovy for breach of fiduciary duty. I don't think he's that dumb.
