1999-00: 251 GF (2nd in NHL that year, that amount would have been 6th in 2009-10)
2000-01: 295 GF (1st in NHL that year, that amount would have been 2nd in 2009-10)

2000-01 was (curiously enough) the only full year that Larry Robinson ever coached the team. He took over late in 1999-00. Was fired late in 2001-02. Took over for Pat Burns temporarily in 2003-04. Quit partway through 2005-06.
I've gotten used to the whole trap/low scoring myths that folks want to accept as gospel...the details as far as the finances of Vanderbeeck are what really scare me. He's a good owner who cares a lot...but even with Kovy it is going to be hard to turn around that whole debt/value ratio. And if Newark decides to sell their interest in the Rock things could only get worse. With a potential work stoppage on the horizon this news is going to give me even more ulcers.

I truly believe the Devils would have shot themselves in the @$$ by signing Kovy to that insane deal. They should consider it a blessing and move along.

Last year, that team was actually pretty exciting to watch. I don't see Kovy turning around the attendance.

That's just typical really. Whatever the hold up/endgame is you won't get anything but the 'status quo' bit from old Lou. It's, pardon, status quo.

Thanks Bojanglz. You clarified exactly where I was coming from. I am not asking to haphazardly throw money around to anything with two legs who can remotely skate. What I would like to see is DL seriously go after one high profile top line scorer. The key word is "seriously." Sort of like what happened with Scuderi. You have to go above and beyond simple accounting and cap space that boxes you in. We can't keep every single one of our players forever and some would be moved to accomodate the new scorer who would be central to our "core." You could still do this and retain guys like Kopitar, Doughty etc..

NP bud. I knew where you were coming from. With all these different posts upon pages and pages, I can see how easy it can be to misread something and take it a different way.

Ok the funniest part of that article
Lamoriello said that the team did not have a representative at the NHL’s Research and Development Camp in Toronto, but he received a report on the ideas that were tested there. He hasn’t read the report yet, so he wasn’t ready to comment on any of the tested concepts.
Now that to me is typical Lou, "no we weren't there, I have a report but I don't know what it says so no comment". I don't believe that for a second.
