That sounds nice, but I wouldn't want to help NJ with their cap problem.

I'd love for Kovy to pull a powerplay back on Lou and accuse him of orchestrating all of this (presser, contract rejection, etc.). That is actually one way that Kovy could get out of NJ without looking like a money-grubbing ho: paint himself as the victim to Lou's scheme. Not likely, but interesting nonetheless.

I think more like "40 First Dates".

Everyday a little something different may happen, we go to bed at night and forget that we did or did not want Kovalchuk.

It is very possible that this could make the renegotiation of a new contract with NJ a bit ugly. Kind of like arbitration

Sounds like Dean's over it. I say he makes a deal before all this with IK is even completely resolved.

The ONLY way he should even think about it is to say to IK's agent, "Give me a number, what it would take -- and I'll think about it."

Ok then, that's makes more sense.

Even if it had been held up, no team would push it that far.

You could argue a 20 year contract for Doughty because he'll be 41 when it would end, and players have played to and past that age. So that's reasonable.

Gordie Howe played 26 seasons in the NHL. The last year he was 51 years old and had been retired for 2 years and then spent 6 more years in the WHA before going back to the NHL for one year.

It's not reasonable to expect a player to have a 40 year career, nor would a GM try it.
