I don't know much about Hartnell so please don't get all mad when I ask, but why would we all be so excited to get him? I know enough he is a decent player but looking at his complete stats, he seems more of a 3rd liner type player which we are stock piled on already. I can see him if we didn't get Poni but I am just missing how this will be HUGE for us like Matt is making it out.

The way Matt was posting it made it sound like Savard, or Richards, or an actual top line player.

I don't like Hartnell's hair and he does not bring it every night.

Hartnell , is a tough player who will hit, fight, and put up 20-30goals (and unfortunately, take a dumb penalty here and there). He's supposed to be a great team guy and a fan favorite.

Having him on our 2nd line wing spot would give us a pretty deep top 9, and assuming we sign Mitchell like CBGB stated we'd be one of the toughest teams in the west-once greene and westy are healthy.

I think the only way everyone would be happy was if it was Jeff Carter. I dont get why the deal hasnt been completed yet if this were true though. DL has made it perfectly clear he does not want Kovalchuk to burn him again. So what is he waiting for?

I would take Scott Hartnell 10 times before I take Jeff Carter.
Hartnell is gritty, hard hitting total A**hole. He is the kind of guy that would make hockey nuts scream with passion as he clobbers someone into the board, gives someone a cheap shot and scores on the same shift, not to mention he looks like a total viking.

He would fit right in on the second line with DLoBrown. He is 2 seasons til 30 because of his birthday being right around the end of the playoffs. Having Poni Zues and Simmer as a third line is going to create more offense than the second line at this point.

    Other then the cap, nothing.

But I'm sure there must be some kind of rule against that, otherwise an NHL team under the cap floor could sign their owner, scratch him for every game, and not lose a cent. And if there is not a rule, I'm sure the NHL would have a big time problem with a team obviously circumventing the CBA. That would most assuredly be against the spirt of the CBA. It doesn't change the fact that they would have the proof they needed of cap circumvention, at least on the players part.
