Lombardi vs. Cammy

Funny, I haven't seen any criticism toward Sutter because he traded for Cammi and couldn't sign him. He wasted that 1st on a rental. DL got what he could. That trade was worth it at the time. Teubert is taking longer to develop than anyone thought, for sure. Hopefully he will turn out to be the physical D man that everyone thought he would be. But if he doesn't I still won't criticize DL for the trade. Now, you can criticize him for not drafting Tyler Myers. That is fair game, however I recall that he got an extra pick out of that but I can't remember who he drafted with that extra pick.

Reason being that Cammy not on this team now is because he was going to test the free-agency, he wanted too much money, is a puck hogger, and that he wanted to play for a Canadien team. That is what I can only remember.

Sure, Cammy is shining now in this years playoffs for the Montreal Candiens an all. That he may be one of the better snipers out there in the NHL that he is showing of.

But the question is for us is that, does this make any of us on here miss Cammy on the Kings?

Was this a bone-headed move that Lombardi made (out of the quite a bit he has done b4) that he may regret, now? I'd say maybe because (like we all know) that were the ones looking for that sniper that can burry the puck in the net.

So who is out there that be nice fit for the Kings this off-season? Kovy? Plekanec (mtl)?, Marleau? and/or Hemsky?

I don't know how fair of a statement that is. He has more then double the goals of anyone else on his team. He also has 2 GWG, one of which in each 7 game series In addition to that he had a goal in all but 2 of the 8 wins they have so far. While Halek has been damn good he is still is giving up on average about 2 and 1/2 goals a game.


I watched all of the Canadians games and Cammalleri was all over the place. Without his 11 goals both of those 7 game series could have had a much different outcome. I might even go as far as saying Washington beats them in game 6 without his effort that game.

Just did the math... he has 29% of the teams goals in the playoffs.

He deserves plenty of credit for stepping his game up tremendously in the playoffs as does Halak

The best part of this GLFG nonsense is that if DL had tried to hang on to him, and he walked, then there'd be just as many people pissed that he wasn't traded and the Kings got nothing for him.

I wasn't bummed that he got traded based on the info that was made available to us. I was bummed that there was nobody in the system that could possibly replace him and really there still isn't. Unless Parse somehow turns into uber player for us, I don't see a lot of aggressive shooters in the wings.

People need to remember that those '"bonehead moves" also put us in position to draft Doughty. So, with the bad, comes GREAT. I am happy we suffered through beachball to have Doughty on our blueline for a LONG time.

Who the hell wouldn't want to play IN Canada where the fans really get into it? Yeah they live it and breathe it up there. Hell there are threads here complaining that we don't get enough press because of the Lakers, the Dodgers, El Nino etc. They all come in higher on the importance ranking scale than the Kings. No one here cares about hockey.

So when you get a guy like Cammy, who's exciting to watch and busts his butt to score a goal BUT he wants to get paid money to do that - we cut him.

And the excuse everyone gives is that he didn't want to be here.

He wanted a certain kind of contract

Were you there with him and Lombardi or are you his agent? I remember Lombardi saying during an interview after the trade that he tried to get in touch with Cammys agent and the guy never called him back. He had a deal and the agent never called. We can all sit here and speculate on that one too.

Lets see, Cammy didn't want to play here so he told his agent NOT to call Dean back. Yeah, thats probably what happened.

Whatever. You're good with the trade right? I'm pretty happy watching him light up every goaltender he meets in the playoffs right now.

I'm NOT happy about the fact that he's not wearing a Kings sweater while doing it.

The guy scores goals. Plain and simple and when he was scoring those goals in LA people here were complaining about HOW he scored those goals. He was on his knee. The same old on the knee shot from Cammy. Blah Blah Blah. Who cares. He put the puck in the net.

I can say the same things about Frolov. Same old wrap around that he never scores on. He doesn't seem to want to play here either. Doesn't show any passion. Oh sure, every once in a while he has a good game and shows his potential.

I just think its funny that you all couldn't wait to get rid of him yet he's become a hot topic around here. Can't stop talking about him.

Some people who don't know any better or who can't get past their personal feelings about the player can't stop talking about him. Still wearing that LaBarbera jersey, too, are ya?

There was never any debate about his ability to score goals. There were character issues with him, partially due to his perceived contract demands and because of his play on the ice in every other respect besides goal scoring.

And if you wanna talk about things we don't know for sure that Dean does, locker room presence is one of those things. And who have we moved from the roster, especially at the time? One guy who comes to mind is Sean Avery - good player, but by rep, not a good guy in the room.

Teubert just turned 20 in March. How quickly did you want the guy to develop? Keep in mind who the Kings had in terms of D prospects at the time - Hickey and Johnson, really. That's about it. We had just taken another puck-mover in Doughty and we took Voynov and Andrew Campbell with 2 of our next 3 picks after that. We had to build our D prospects list, which was exactly what Dean said he intended to do in that draft, and Tuebert was a tough motherf***er that was now lacking in the system.

Incidentally, our next move was to go out a few days later and pick up Matt Greene in the trade for Lubo. Get it? We picked up another gritty defenseman who could play immediately. Passing on Meyers was a calculated decision aimed at varying the types of D prospects we had.

And the other d-man in the trade turned out to be Nic Deslauriers the following draft, a puck-moving type kid who made a decent showing at the last prospects camp who turned 19 in February.

Moving Cammy helped add depth to the one position in our organization at the time that had it's least amount of depth. A position that we sorely needed to develop.

The question is would you have paid Cammy 6 million on a long term contract after one more season with the Kings where all he did was score 35 and miss the playoffs? 'Cause that would have been what Dean was faced with. That's assuming, of course, that Cammy even wanted to take a second look at the Kings after shopping himself to any team north of the border.

But... but... he was part of the CORE

Didn't he "learn how to win" and "pay his dues"?

We all wanted the slug jettisioned - The guy asked for a ridiculous amount of money - he lost his case - he didn't sulk - but he is not, and never will be, a team player.

The Habs are NOT going to win the cup folks.

Lombardi was DEAD FRICKEN WRONG (and I'll hammer him in a later article) when he said "you can't build championship teams with so many free agents. It just doesn't work" - Guess what, Dean? HOW many free agents did Montreal sign this season?

But lets be real. The Habs are riding a smoking hot goaltender right now and several others willing to sacrifice their bodies. Other than that, they SUCKED.

Halak and Price are both RFA's. Pyatt, Pouliot, Kostitsyn and Lapierre are also RFA's - Plekanec is a UFA -

They're an 8th place team... and barely that! They would have been, what, 13th, 14th in the West?

Let Cammy score the goals. It will be the last time in his contract that he actually MAKES the playoffs.

Cammy STILL isn't worth 6M a year...

In all fairness that team had a string of injuries that made at least 5 of their top players miss 17 games or more, with Markov missing 37. They were also under .500 team when Price was in net. They won 2 out of 3 games with Halek in net. I don't see them winning them the cup either, but to measure what type of team they really are is tough. So far they are team that just knocked out the Caps and the pens. 2 teams that were favored to make it to the finals or the cup. That says something.
