Hard to believe the Kings are the most historically successful team left in the West, huh? Shows just how big of an opportunity this field presents.

History will, in fact, be made.

The Blues have played in 3 Stanley Cup Finals. They made those appearances consecutively after the 67/68 expansion.

With their NHL record consecutive playoff appearance streak, the Blues own a far better history than the Kings.

That said, the Blues are going down. A new chapter will be written.

I knw it has been al long time (45yrs) or so. The Blues appeared in 1968,1969,& 1970 finals. The LA kings once 1993 the Marty stick finals.

Refreshing change for once. I'm glad to see it.

Knowing the NHL and NBC though... they're already mapping out all the Flyers games. They're going to pray the Rangers, Bruins and Devils win their respective series too since "market-wise" it would be terrible to have the Senators, Panthers, and Capitals in it. (Although the Capitals can go either way since they can market Ovechkin.)

I guess that means all the West Coast games will be at night and that way we don't have to worry about any afternoon games on NBC.

I wonder if Jack Johnson was rooting for the Canucks and is now rooting for St. Louis.

But I want to see a lot of purty goals!!!!

Oops, knew they never made it in that 25-year playoff span, didn't know they made it those three years in a row before it. I stand corrected!

Kings and Blues, of course, joined the league at the same time and share the pain of no Stanley Cups in that lengthy time span. The Canucks come close...

I was a sophomore at Boston University in 1967/68 and I remember that first expansion year very well. But in Boston, we were far more captivated by a young Bobby Orr transforming the team that inhabited the old Gah-den. Expansion was a kind of joke until the teams re-aligned and the Original 6 were split up.

It feels fresh to have some new blood! God the NHL was getting stale with the same collection of teams every year, the Pens, Vancouver, Detroit etc...

At least the last decade has had a little more variety in the Cup winners. (Carolina, Tampa, Chicago, Anaheim) Whereas from '95-'03, you either had The Avalanche, Devils or Wings win it. (With the exception of my boy, Ed Belfour, and the Stars, in '99.)

I'm personally hoping the Kings & Coyotes go to the West Finals. I like both teams, and they've both went through a lot to get here. For the East, I'd prefer Philly & Boston, with the Panthers as an alternate.

Either way, the Wings were the first ones eliminated, and that makes me happy!
