Apparently they have already said they want to try JvR as a center. I don't see it, but...

I think JvR will bounce back from the injuries last season and yet again, the Flyers have given up on a guy way too early. I'm not sure Lucke Schenn is the answer to the D problems in Philly.

Oh God. Leave it to Toronto to find a way to **** this deal up. They want a big, physical Center so badly that they trade for a winger and want to convert him?

I've been a fan of Luke Schenn since his WHL days but I don't think he'll ever be more than a solid 2nd pairing guy. By no means a replacement for Pronger but he definitely fills part of the void left by Pronger.

It won't really matter how good Schenn is...that type of defenseman doesn't exactly thrive in systems that rely purely on offense and speed. Pretty sure Wilson had a similar system to Laviolette's so I think the change of scenery will give him a boost, but I have my reservations about this trade as of right now. Holmgren has sold low yet again.

In defense of Burke, I think it was less about Schenns and more about needing a talented gritty center with size and truculence

Tambellini still has that ****-eating grin on his face every time he gets to the podium thinking to himself what a wonderful job he's done collecting first overall pick after first overall pick.
The Isle's are almost there. Snow has done a pretty good job given that nobody wants to play in that dump

I was thinking, it's been quite the overhaul in Philly from a couple seasons ago. It's almost like they went the Chicago route of winning the cup and then dismantling the team except they didn't win the cup. I still shake my head at that terrible contract they gave Bryzgalov.

No one wants to play there because he, Milbury before him, and Wang ran that franchise to the core of the Earth.

Agreed. So why did he trade for a winger?

Philly seemed like a team of spare parts last year to me for some reason. Part of it was having so many new guys on the team and no captain, but the other part was the way they played. Structureless hockey that fans of offense like but will never win anything.

I've been saying for years that Burke is as overrated a GM as any. He was given so many gifts in Anaheim that any idiot could have won the cup in '07. He did nothing in Vancouver for years and is now showing more than ever that he has no clue how to build a franchise.
