I think Marchand deserved a bit of a "you're kind of a little douchebag so you should sit a few games" suspension, but five games is pretty silly. It doesn't help that Salo gets injured getting out of bed.

So far there have been seven Rule 48 suspensions out of 11 incidents (excluding Malone's) that were/are a shorter duration than five games.

But I get that they're trying to nip that type of hit in the bud.

if so I think the main difference is that Raymonds hit was viewed as reactionary/defensive (which is ok according to the video Shanahan provided) - whereas Marchands was predatory.
