Mike "Jesus" Smith
Columbus Blue Jackets at Phoenix Coyotes Game Recap - 04/03/2012
He's a barely-backup material in Tampa, comes into Phoenix, and suddenly he's almost Vezina-candidate material, while performing disgustingly well now that it matters the most. I know Tippett is not a goalie coach, but it is his selection of coaches, and he does set the tone, work environment, mentality, atmosphere etc. in the team. And Smith is far from the only one overperformer on their team...
Tippett to LA would be the best thing that could possibly happen to drastically improve our chances at the Cup.

Smith has been amazing for sure. But if you look at how Bryz has been inconsistent, granted, at times fantastic...but at equal times lousy, it just goes to show the system is the thing.

BTW, Sean Burke is the Yotes goalie coach. Props to him for the work he's done. Smith was almost relegated to the journeyman backup scrap heap.

Smith also had a long injury history in Tampa. He is enjoying a healthy year on a good defensive team coached by Tippett and Burke. Nice turnaround, Mike.
