I said it when the contract happened - the Canucks had to pay Luongo for something he won in Vancouver that doesn't count in the NHL history books - the Gold Medal on home ice. Even though he wasn't spectacular, that was about as must win for the country as anything we've seen for some time and he got it done.

absolutely... and i'll further add that it hasn't been him the last couple of post-seasons. again, i think he should want out more than they would want him out.

personally, i think opting on Schneider signals a much needed shuffling of the deck. though if i'm Gillis, i'm firing Alain Vignault at least a day before i'm trading Roberto Luongo.

I would say that he wasn't awful, but he was also making $10 million last season and he was outplayed in more than one series including badly in the Finals. So much talk this year about the Canucks first round exit, yet we forget that they were a OT goal away from blowing a 3-0 series lead in round one last year.

There were signs on the wall this year that this was going to play out this way. Arguably the biggest game of the regular season for the Canucks, going into Boston and beating the Bruins - and Luongo was on the bench for it. I think Lou is an above average goaltender with a very expensive maintenance plan attached to him. That may work fine in most NHL markets, but not in a place like Vancouver. (Nor would it work in Toronto or Montreal, either.) Tampa is the place he'll probably end up.

i'd LOVE for Edmonton to take him, but that won't happen. i wonder if Columbus will look at him with that first being a apart of what they dangle.

Luongo wouldn't waive for either EDM or CLB imo.

Pretty sure he wants to go back East and be closer to his family.

To Tampa for Lecavalier is a REALLY interesting trade scenario.

Does that setup them also shipping Kesler east for some additional scoring for the 2nd line?

The biggest problem that Vancouver is going to have is on the back end. Edler went from being a young stud to absolutely broken. Ballard fell apart as well. Salo is UFA and him taking a short term deal elsewhere for a chunk of coin isn't that far fetched.

Regardless, beyond the Vinnie for Luongo deal, its gotta be a salary dump for a short pick, and them turning their attention to grab a PF for the Sedins, additional scoring for the 2nd line, and replacing the loss of Ehrhoff last season and the potential loss of Salo this summer.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

    Right column halfway down.

If there is any player that folks would be pining for the CBA "Amnesty Clause" its him.

Hardly. It's just proof that there are more Canucks fans on the interwebs than 27-28 other teams. You can be sure many of them ran back to CDC to post their roster ideas for next season.

It isn't interesting in the slightest. That would be an awful trade for Vancouver.
