these contracts may not look as bad if the owners get amnesty written into the next CBA.
... that idea can be spun into appearing as a benefit to both the owners and the NHLPA.
just sayin'

And I can say that your retort does nothing but toe the Vancouver fan line and is made up of little else than Canuck romanticism.
Luongo is not the answer to a team gunning for a cup and he's quite expensive to a team just looking to shore up it's goaltending but not compete for the cup. He's a good goalie, just not a great one.
As with all things, time will tell the tale. It's possible Vancouver gets a great bounty for Luongo. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's possible.

The reason that he is being trade could be a concern of a prospective team an he has a mighty big contract left. That is what would keep a team from giving up too much.
Personally I think he is a good goalie and has gotten a bad rep in Vancouver. They should get a "decent" return.
If I am an up an coming team, I am not messing with my roster to add Luongo. This would have been a great move for the Canucks to make last year, to the Flyers.
Sounds like a handful of teams will be on his list, and a team like Chicago would be a great fit. They are going to get best value to a team that has most pieces already in place and just needs a #1. Hawks are that type of team. Not sure if they are on the list though.
Mighty big how? Cap hit is very manageable. The big money is already paid. The last few years are add on as cap fixers.
Come on kids, teams aren't thinking 5 years ahead they are thinking next year. GM's either win or they are fired.

As for the Hawks, they'd need to delete Chelsea Dagger from their ipod.
Do you have a "Vote Romney" bumper sticker?
Let's say the Canucks get Luke Schenn and something for Luongo? Or Malone+ out of TB? Or Gudbranson out of FLA?
What is your definition of a "great bounty"? Hell, we got him for washed up Bertuzzi and that pissed off a lot of teams that didn't even know he was in play.
UFA's, none. Pending RFA's/soon to be RFA/FA: Carey Price, Tim Thomas, Mikka Kipprusoff, Tomas Vokoun. Up-and-comers: Schneider, Bernier.
He's hardly the only goalie out there and most of the players I mentioned aren't tied to huge contracts (and if they are, those contracts will be expiring before Luongo's). And really, 5.3 isn't all that manageable. It certainly isn't 2.5.
If I had a political bumper sticker it would probably say something to the effect of "fire all politicians", but that's neither here nor there.
To me, a great bounty would be an impact player which I don't think Vancouver will squeeze out. For the money, term, and extracurriculars of Luongo, I would say Vancouver needs to approach this as addition by subtraction and not "how can we rape another team?"
And your second line is kinda my point, the Canucks acquired Luongo for basically Bertuzzi who was riddled with the fallout of Steve Moore, and somehow people expect this time around the Canucks will pry a gem from another team?
As for Schenn...maybe. I dunno. I do hear quite a lot of complaints about Schenn from Leafs fans so I'd say be careful what you wish for. I also think Toronto would be a bad fit for Luongo (Francois Allaire or not) simply because of the huge expectations Leafs fans put on their players. But it would be entertaining at least.
