Thread: NBC Sucks

I believe a statement like "NBC Sucks" should be backed up with proof. So I'd like to report my observations.


1. After they decide what player they're going to highlight before the game, they MAKE SURE to make that player seem like they are the STAR of the game. No matter what.

2. They over-dramatize almost every play. No one is better at making NOTHING sound like SOMETHING like Doc Emerick.

3. Brian Hayward.

4. Mike Milbury.

5. I get that "NHL'y" feeling every telecast. (I hope you know what I mean) - The best way to describe what I mean is, it's a feeling that the announcers want to bring up Sidney Crosby or Henrik Lundqvist even if neither team is playing in the game being announced. If in fact the Penguins are playing........ Sidney is God. If only Pierre could touch the hem of Sidney's robe..........

6. Brian Hayward and Mike Milbury.


Thank God we have Bob and Jim. Best announcers in all of sports.

I have to agree with 3, 4 & 6. I think Milbury is continuously auditioning to be the next Don Cherry. Hayward seems to be auditioning for an mental asylum.

As I was telling Tracy, there should be a law against ones like this causing so much mental cruelty to so many. Shanny should be called in to suspend the whole lot of them.

25 games to Milbury for being a douchebag.

The reason it's so many games? He's a repeat offender.

Emerick sounds like he's having his prostate examined by Captain Hook (as Dave Barry would say).

Haywire sounds like one of those people who walk down the street talking to themselves.

Engblom sounds like he's speaking some other language; Afrikaans, maybe.

Milbury sounds like Chewbacca.

Roenick sounds like Squiggy.

That white-bread, boring host's (@ stage left - whatshisname) lips move and no sound comes out.

Roenick is a bit of a special case. He tells some great stories but his hockey commentary is garbage. He is another guy we get here once a week or so as a radio guest and it is always so clear he is talking out of ass.

While it's fun to complain about NBC's guys, it really doesn't get much better elsewhere. Except of course Chris Cuthbert, the best guy in hockey. Too bad CBC let him go during the lockout.

A couple of years ago, I always thought Doc Emerick was pretty cool at play-by-play.

But then now, I'm starting to get annoyed with him. He just starts screaming at the top of his lungs when someone shoots the puck now. "Ovechkin with a SHOT, OH MY! WHAT A SAVE BY LUNDQVIST!!!!!!!!!!!" (On a routine save)

Eh. I don't mind them.

I think Doc is perfect for playoff hockey. It's like watching a soccer game on Telemundo.
