    Default Necessary changes to officiating.

I just saw the Rangers win a game, in which they won by a goal they scored on a power play they DID NOT deserve.

    Remember the Clowe incident?

I think the NHL officiating has gotten so bad that it's time for action.

If it's ok to call Toronto to see if there's a distinct kicking motion, then why is it not ok to check goalie interference, etc.???

I propose a system similar to what the NFL instituted.

    Coaches Challenge.

If a coach believes a call should be reversed, he can throw a flag. A coach can throw as many challenge flags as they want, but if the call is held up upon review, they are called for a delay of game penalty, and they have to kill a minor penalty. This will eliminate unnecessary challenges.

One penalty can make or break a season, and in this day and age, why shouldn't we utilize technology in order to clean up this absolutely horrendous officiating.

    What do you think?

Yeah the fact that the goalie interference wasn't reviewable is bush league.

Lundquist will be opening his wallet with the comments he made tonight after the game. Something about the league wanting Ottawa to win.

Honestly officiating across the board doesn't make much sense lately. linesman consistently half ass the offsides and iceing calls. Ref's aren't watching the play. I honestly think if they went back to a 1 ref system but made all stick/elbow/rough penalties subject to post game fine/suspension based on video review it would cut out half the bull****. The league could let the teams do the video review work for them and coaches would be concerned about players playing a cleaner game. The ref could then just concentrate on the play instead of the bs.

The problem is that when such rubbish decisions are made by people who ought to know better, you will get people shouting conspiracy.

You know, I read some article that interviewed Bettman and he was defending Shanahan and his decisions. I don't think the dude realizes that fans aren't as upset with Shanahan as they are with the LACK of consistency with the officiating. He can defend Shanahan all he wants but the real issue is whats going on, or NOT going on, on the ice. He needs to address the officiating and if he thinks that these guys are doing a good job out there...... we are in serious trouble.

They have 4 pairs of eyes out there and I know they can't possibly see everything, BUT there are some blatant calls that have just been blown. Big time. Calls being made/not being made when they should have been. Somehow Bettman seems to skirt the real issue whenever a question/problem is presented to him. Its the only thing he does a good job at......

I've never understood why the officials don't work as crews. The refs need to be partnered up (one senior, one junior) for a whole season, let them get used to how the other works. They also need more training on how to work as a team. There are just too many instances of the back referee making a bad call when the action ref had a good angle to see the play. Also, stop making "assumption calls," if you don't see it, don't call it.
