    looks like the Penguins are making room to make a pretty good run at Parise.

    Zbynek Michalek to Phoenix. with him and Staal gone tonight, that's quite a bit of cap space cleared.

    at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

    1. Penguins will reluctantly deal Jordan Staal to Carolina without getting Jeff Skinner since Hurricanes can get him as an UFA next offseason; Carolina cross hairs has Marc Staal lined up next
    2. James van Riemdyk goes to Toronto while Luke Schenn heads to Philadelphia to join Brayden even if it's not a straight swap
    3. Rangers won't give up Kreider and Sharks won't surrender Couture so Howson holds onto Rick Nash yet again hoping things will change by next season's trade deadline
    4. Gillis comes to his senses and settles for dealing Roberto Luongo to Florida
    5. Rangers end up getting Bobby Ryan, whom they should have targeted ahead of Nash, anyway
    6. Edmonton trades down probably with Islanders to get more picks to build up their D prospects pool and goes for Griffin Reinhart as its first 2012 draft selectoin; Nail Yakupov joins John Tavares in Long Island
    7. Ryan Suter puts on his Red Wings for Detroit
    8. Zach Parise ignites the offseason to Kingdom Come by committing to Los Angeles after seeing first-hand how we are built for sustained Cup contention



    p.s. word is now coming out that Keith Yandle is being made available by the 'Yotes.
