but if you REALLY REALLY have to cut down on length of a game how about getting rid of a few of those obnoxious TV time outs????

Those are ****ing interminable and actually impact the momentum of the games!

Annnnnnnnnnnd that's it. Lose the Marty rule, get rid of composite sticks and less commercials. All the other stuff is bunk. You can put headsets on the refs all you want, they can't communicate now...what difference will it make. And all the tinkering with when you can and can't line change...that's gonna speed things up, all the confusion/penalties. Leave the game alone.

NHL goal verification line, with the fresh scent of mint - Puck Daddy - NHL*Blog - Yahoo! Sports

Not a bad idea since they cant seem to get sensors in the puck to work. Its not a perfect solution but it could help.

So wait . . . I can stand a puck on end in the white zone between the goal line and the verification line. What's the call?

Like i said it's not perfect but there will be situations where it will help. It is simply there as a tool to assist video replay on the close calls. The criteria for a good goal doesnt change

Don't understand the re-introducing of the two-line pass. Doesn't really jive with the "new NHL", does it?

A couple of rule changes that I didn't see mentioned:

No icing allowed for the shorthanded team. I actually like this one. Why change a rule of the game to make it easier on the team being penalized? I also saw a suggestion (not sure if the NHL is planning to consider it) of going back to the full two minute penalty, regardless of any score by the team on the power play. I would not have a problem with either rule as long as it doesn't cause refs to start swallowing their whistles again.

The other change they're working on which I believe will be implemented this season is curved glass at the benches instead of turnbuckles in order to avoid another Pacioretty-type incident.

I would be fine with none of these rule changes, but if they took out the trapezoid I would also be happy. It would make it less enticing to dump-and-chase!

Interesting, I HATED that rule idea. As if refs don't have enough control over the game with penalty calls now, making it this much harder to kill penalties would be brutal.

Saw the NHL Net coverage of the R and D camp, love the curved glass at the benches, getting rid of those turnbuckles is good for everyone.

I get it, I just don't see it being THAT helpful. The biggest problem with video review is often the goaltender or a player blocking the camera.

So how about this . . . a modified section of ice within the goal that is raised glass with a thinner ice section on top, and a camera shooting UP into the net. It's not as if this part of ice needs to support constant skate wear.
