The wild just dug themselves a 13 year grave.
The wild just dug themselves a 13 year grave.
I was thinking about this a bit here trying to think which is the better angle to take.
1) Congratulations to the Wild for pulling off one hell of a best case scenario for them. They got a whole lot better in 1 day.
2) Wow. They just overpaid. Bigtime.
3) I guess for today's athlete - money>>>>loyalty.
Sometimes you do need to overpay to get better. From that standpoint, I do think it was a good day for them. Lou in NJ has got to be pretty pissed. Does Parise know the Devils just made the Cup finals?
Dude, they've been out of the 1st Round once in their entire existence. This is a great move for their fans and for the franchise.
A huge commitment by ownership to finally ice a competitive team.
Will it hurt them in 7 or 8 years when Suter and Parise are over the hill? Probably, but for the next 5+ seasons they have two game changing players locked-up, in their prime.

The writing was on the wall when Parise admitted he had been calling and texting Suter several times every day. It was clear they were going to try and sign together. Any team that gets better and can challenge the Canucks is fine by me. It's a great day for Minnesota fans. Hopefully Suter being signed makes it easier for Calgary to unload Bouwmeester.
MN is indeed where the Wild things are!
I wonder how New Jersey fans feel about the price they paid for Kovalchuck (Anssi Salmela):
Niclas Bergfors
Johnny Oduya
Patrice Cormier
1st-round pick in 2010
2nd-round draft pick swap in 2010 (38th vs 54th)
$3 Million Dollar Fine for Cap Circunvention
3rd-round pick forfeit in 2011 (Cap Circunvention)
1st-round pick forfeit in 2013/14 (Cap Circunvention)
Pay Roll: 15-year, $100-million contract ($67 million in the next 6 seasons)
and now...
Their team captain Zach Parise.
i wouldn't do Heater for Bouwmeester. i agree with the second thought though. ideally, they'd have Koivu at 2 and Brodziak at 3, but Mikko is strong enough to play the one until that kid Granlund is ready... even though Granlund is a bit small.
Heatley, Setoguchi, Parise, Clutterbuck, Bouchard and Mitchell the wings, with guys like Cullen, Konopka and Veilleux around, they are going to be a tough bunch to play against... probably the best forward depth they've ever had.
guys like Spurgeon and Stoner shouldn't be overlooked either... and Gilbert CAN move the puck.
their defense and depth in net is nowhere NEAR what people think it isn't.
