Even though underage drinking explains this away I have to believe there is more to the story we're not hearing. I mean come on 20cents? really? cabbie was probalby a detroit fan (a.k.a. *******) that antagonized them or something. I don't care about 20 cents and I'm not even a millionare. and wahts ample tip % for cabs? why not hand him a twenty? 1.20$ is still cheap for a tip.

it is also a pretty good way to save face and protect a young star athlete's reputation when a matter like this is resolved by unofficially settling out of court too... for a few hundred thousand bucks.

the "incident" did happen in the kid's hometown as well.

We are the Samurai, the warrior elite who protect and serve. Armed and armored from head to toe, masters of our personal weapons and bound by Honor, Duty, Loyalty, and Honesty. We walk the long path into the places society would prefer forgotten, and chase those demons that most would run from screaming in fear. We are the Samurai.

I have a feeling that 2 drunk driving convictions and driving a taxi without a license is the real reason that the cabbie's wants to settle out of court. I think Kane's lawyer would pounce on that one. Also, I'm not sure, but preventing someone from getting out of a cab by locking the doors might not be completely legal either.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Steve Thomas (with the Blackhawks during the court case, not sure if he was for the incident) arrested for urinating on the back of a Buffalo police station?

Nothing good happens in Buffalo, period.

the thing that frustrates me the most is the way that the media torch's kane (and other atheletes) for a couple of days, and then when more news comes out, not only do they back away from their vitriol, but they start shaking their heads, wringing their hands and asking, in a faux reflexive manner, "how could anyone blame him without getting his side of the story?"

you know damn well, that had kane come out and professed his innocence, told his side of the story, the press would have been like, "bitch, we know you're just a spoiled athlete that we as sportswriters envy the crap out of. you're guilty!"

To have the audacity to cry out that such a great injustice has been done to such a promising and young athlete as if they weren't the ones responsible is outrageous and insulting. That they would also lay the blame at the feet of the "public"--yea you know they are talking about us who rely on them and journalistic integrity standards that FROM THE START require getting both sides of a story before you break it you ass-holes--pisses me off.
