I wanna know how long a contract has to be to be considered "long term."

I'm still curious how the rest of the NHLPA membership feels about how this all came about, and how they'll look at Kovalchuk. From some of the coments out there, there is a rift between the lower level salary guys and the top players already. Sooner or later, someone is going to want a contract like Kovalchuk and a team is going to have to say "no" because of this rule change - costing a player millions of dollars in the process.
I don't like the idea that the NHL basically have admitted that the Canucks, Black Hawks, Red Wings and Devils have a competitive advantage cap wise compared to other teams going foward. And we're not talking about a short term issue here, either.
Hopefully the best thing that happens in this is that the salaries normalize a little bit and the top guys end up getting less and the wealth gets spread to the rest of the players. Of course, that's a pipe dream - the real result will the same for the top, less for the middle guys, and the extra back in the owner's pockets.
WOW I'm glad this is finally done.
Who will the Devils trade? THAT will be the new question.
Go ahead and lash out with verbal judo, but I can't help but wonder why the hell nhl.com keeps reporting that the deadline is extended now until 1AM ET? What's the dealio? What did TSN know half a day ago that they reported that it was a done deal? Don't get me wrong, I'm going to be glad it's over, but wtf?
Ya so now the deadline on the formal decision is 3AM eastern time? What gives? What's the holdup? For pete's sake, I'm turning on an old episode of Family Guy and going to bed. I need closure, people. CLOSURE. Announce it, nhl.com. Quit messing with me!
Aaaaaaaaand I have closure. Contract approved. Looking forward to the end of October (snicker). Looking even MORE forward to helping a true King, Dustin, build his playground at the end of September. Go Kings Go!
