Always loved Petey...but Steve Bernier(also a tryout) is the more likely to come out of camp with a contract.
Nice, hope both of them make it.
HockeyBuzz.com - Roger Mussa - Sal is back!
More important...Bryce Salvador is back. Remains to be seen if losing a year to concussions changes his game or whether he will be on and off the injured list, but he's a good guy and a 'veteran presence' on what is going to be a fairly young Devils D. I hope that his problems are behind him.
HockeyBuzz.com - Todd Cordell - New Jersey Devils Training Camp Notes: 09/19/11
Quote:
With the New Jersey Devils set to open up their preseason schedule against the Rangers in two days, I figured it's time to get some info on how all the Devils players are performing during training camp. I will note that I have not seen any of the camp personally, but based off tweets, emails, texts, etc. I have been receiving/reading from people who are at Devils camp, I have gathered these notes.
- 34 year old Petr Sykora is looking very good in camp. For those that don't know, he potted a hat trick today in the Devils' scrimmage today. Based on people I have contacted, he looked great today, and he did more than just score goals. The only knock I've heard on him today was about his faceoff abilities, but seeing as he is not a center it's no surprise he struggled.
- Adam Larsson was paired with Henrik Tallinder today. For those who have been reading my blogs and tweets, you know that I want Larsson playing with Tallinder due to the mentoring abilities of Tallinder. Word is Larsson looked very good. Tallinder compared what he was doing today with Larsson to what he did with Tyler Myers in Buffalo - Go figure.
- According to Devils writer Michelle Kenneth, Stephen Veilleux, who is on a two-way contract, looked very impressive today. I wouldn't set anything in stone just yet, but his agent Ben Hankinson tweeted that Veilleux will play for the Devils. I'm not sure if Hankinson's been told that by Devils management, or if he is just confident in his client, but if Veilleux plays like he reportedly did today there is no question he'll be on the team come October.
Was that Petr Sykora that signed with New Jersey or was it Petr Sykora?
It was Petr Sykora?
Thanks, I wasn't sure.
Well, looks like the Peter Harrold era is already over. If waived players clear they get assigned to minors...right? I cannot see Petey not getting a deal, he has been lights out in camp and not only have him and Elias rekindled, but he also seems to have sparked Clarkson's offensive ability. If he doesn't get a reasonable 1 year deal it really says more about the Devils finances then I want to hear.Quote:
Waived:
Jay Leach, Rod Pelley, Vladimir Zharkov, Stephane Veilleux, Peter Harrold, Matthew Corrente, Mark Fraser and Tim Sestito
Lamoriello also said the Devils will not sign tryout Steve Bernier; the team hasn't yet made a decision on fellow tryouts Petr Sykora and Anton Stralman.
Great news. Thanks for the update, JD, I was just about to Google for news on it. :)
Sucks for Harrold. Really hoping the best for Sykora though, he's been one of my favorite players for years now and the only Devils jersey I own is a Petr Sykora one.
We could pick Harrold up of waivers, then we wouldn't have to pay Doughty his $7m.
