why are you sooo into penalties?
Yeah I'm not sure why penalties means awesome playoff intensity? Or a lack of penalties mean it's only a step above curling? The Devils are typically one of the least penalized teams in the league.
Tuomo Ruutu's been a wrecking crew. Tim Gleason got a bunch of clean hits. Just because neither team is retaliating after every little bump doesn't mean it's not great hockey to watch. The third period yesterday was amazingly wide open. Devils came back from 3-0 (and being entirely dominated) to tying it. Carolina was on its heels for the entire third period but poured it on for the last shift.
My buddies thought I took the loss pretty well. I told them this isn't even the most ridiculous NJ/CAR playoff game I've seen. In 2006, Scott Gomez scored with like 20 seconds left in the 3rd period to give the Devils a one goal lead. On the ensuing faceoff, John Madden beats Rod Brind'Amour so cleanly that the puck ends up in the Devils' zone. Carolina cycles around for a bit, throws the puck at the net, and Eric Staal poked home the tying goal with like 3 seconds left. And then the 'Canes won in OT. That one was more of a stomach punch.
Detroit is just unreal. I don't know if I can see THAT team losing 4 out of 7 games to anybody, right about now.
It was a helluva a season for Columbus. Hitch further proved that he's one of the Top 5 coaches in the game.
On a Kings related note, with Columbus' lack of scoring punch from the blueline, it certainly seems like Tom Preissing would be a good fit for that group.
A Modin for Preissing swap kinda makes sense for both teams.
Yeah, 85 combined shots in regulation and a 1-0 score was definitely a bit nerve racking. I did enjoy some other friends, who didn't watch the game, give me the sarcastic "1-0? That must have been exciting."
You missed a pretty good one.Quote:
