The Ducks...are only irritating because they've won a Cup. Other than that, they're as big of a joke to me as everything else in Orange County. The Sharks are way more naturally hate-able. I don't really think the "rivalry" with either team is nearly as important as those with teams we've actually had brutal playoff battles with. Which isn't to say that if we meet the Sharks or Ducks in the playoffs at some point it won't be an EPIC series, but, until that happens...meh.

I hope the Ducks not just win, but sweep. I want every dollar spent on Blake and Roenick to have been just as much of a waste for SJ as they were for the Kings. Two playoff home games does not ramp up the revenue stream enough to cover those douchenozzles' salaries. Then I hope the Ducks beat the Wings and tank their own draft pick before losing to Calgary or Vancouver. Yeah.

No, the Ducks may not be the Kings mortal enemy. The problem here is not the rivalry itself.

For a lot of people from Orange County who follow the Kings, it is very hard to keep your cool when all of Orange County and people for the most part who have never even seen a hockey stick hop on the bandwagon, and before you know it even your friends are saying, "quack quack quack". They are MY mortal enemies, not because of the team itself or because I feel the rivalry is stronger than that of ours against the Sharks, Leafs, etc..., but because of the tards and dumbasses down in the Orange ****hole who get an amazing team handed to them without suffering like we have done for so long.

I totally agree with your characterization of that whole scene, and I find it really hard to take any Ducks fan over the age of about 15 seriously (at least the kids could have legitimately started watching the Mighty Ducks first and thought the were cool and stuck with them).

That said...I don't take them seriously at all. So it's not much of a rivalry to me. To be crude, it's as if I had a younger, severely autistic sibling who was REALLY amazing at solving Rubik's Cubes in 10 seconds but was never going to stop drooling or learn how to dress himself or get a date.

Or even better, more like the Karate Kid scene where Larusso catches a fly with his chopsticks on like the third try and Miyagi storms out, furious, muttering, "beginner luck." SURE, the Ducks got a cup first, and in way less time as a franchise, but would I rather be Daniel I-hate-this-bike-I-hate-this-friggin-bike Larusso or MISTER ****ING MIYAGI, manipulating you into remodeling his entire backyard and dropping epic pearls of wisdom like "Real man use belt, hold up pants"?!

Anyway, my real point was that until the Ducks and Kings meet in a playoff series, the rivalry is a joke, and my teams-to-hate list will still read as our most recent playoff opponents (if I can remember back that far).

As for the whole "who should I root for?" argument.

I think that no matter who wins this series it is a win/win and here is why.

1) The Sharks Win: If the Sharks win the series then the Sucks do not make it past the first round yet again..which is a victory in itself...and more than likely the Sharks will go on to lose against Detroit in the Western Conference final. win/win

2) The Ducks Win: If the Sucks win the series then San Jose loses...nice...and then the Sucks will more than likely go on to play Detroit in the Semis and get (for lack of a better word) raped.


Either way...we, as Kings fans win.
So root for them both...or don't root for either.

I am personally leaning towards the Sharks winning because seeing Getzlaf, Pronger, Perry etc. with any bit of happiness makes me cringe.
