I don't get the whole "admiring your pass" thing. Seriously, someone explain this to me.

If you pass the puck, you're often going to be looking at the direction you want the puck to go. Are you then supposedly to swivel 360 degrees after every single pass, to make sure that nobody wants to take your head off from the blind-side?

If that's the case, then the NHL should look at drafting more figure skaters.

They can hit those double and triple axels in a hurry! You gotta make sure nobody's gonna cheap-shot you, after all!

Not to mention the Wings are quite thin on the blue line. This is not a cakewalk.
Ditto. This is definitely not going to be a cakewalk.

This is basically what I said in my own thread:
Detroit/Anaheim series is of dire importance...

This is the battle-cry of the fans that would rather see hockey become more like the WWE than a game of skill and speed. The kind of fans that would rather see a huge hit that knocks someone unconscious than see a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal.

I didn't have a big problem with the hit the way the rules are now. I think it was legal. I don't think it was late (borderline), and it looked like the shoulder hit first.

The Brashear hit was different because if you look at the context of the play, he was running around the ice LOOKING for someone to injure. Brown's hit was him taking advantage of an opposing player being in a very vulnerable position, and making sure he hurt him as much as he could.

The problem I have is that they were both aimed straight for the head. This is happening a LOT more often these days. I hate to say it, but it's only a matter of time before someone dies from one of these hits to the head.

The responsibility is with the league to make actual rule changes about hits to the head. AND to start having some kind of consistency when it comes to suspensions involving hits to the head.

I'm pretty sure it's going to take someone getting killed/maimed before the stupid-a** league does anything.

While this is true, the responsibility is also with the players in making sure they are aware of the play around them and not putting themselves in a vulnerable position. I don't condone reckless hits, but any player that voluntarily turns their back in the corner (for example), in a contact game, is asking for an injury. I understand many hits cannot be avoided, and that some level of protection for the players is needed, but it IS a rough, contact game, and solid hits, even when a player is not prepared for it, has always, and should always be part of it.

    Late hit? Yes.
    High hit? Yes.
Injury caused? Yes.(I know you guys will say "the visor cut him!!" but the visor didn't spontaneously cut the man. He was hit in the head, from a blind side.)
Intent to injure? Yes and no. Sure he wnated to clobber the guy, but actually knock him out, cause injury?

Anyways, I think 1 game would have been appropriate.

Damn it, what time is "Heidi" coming on. I hear that Shirley Temple is a great actress.

Great game. Detroit has outplayed the Ducks in the OTs.

I was scheduled to voluntarily go to work at 3PM.

Now that I see they're in the 2nd OT in Det, I'm going nowhere until this thing is decided.

They outplayed them from the 3rd period on, almost dominant.

Except for Chris Osgood of course.

Curious to see who bounces back for Game 3, and who is used up.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Players should take some responsibility for putting themselves in a vulnerable position but at the same time opponents need to do a better job in recognizing that they can do some serious damage by hitting a player when he's in that spot.

I think there is a lack of respect for each other that has come in to the game. I'm all for good physical clean hockey, understand how a big hit can change the momentum in a game, don't want to see hitting taken out of the game. But many times there is no need to go in and smoke a guy when he's in that dangerous spot 2-3 feet from the boards, yet players do it anyways. Players need to realize that if they were in the other player's shoes, they'd hope the guy behind them would let up. That's also something that is going to have to change at a coaching level because I'm sure if a player let up on a guy in that spot, the coach is going to rip him for it.
