I am saying Wings in 5.
Everyone is saying that Anaheim's physicality will help them out but I don't see this.
The Wings powerplay is too good and the Ducks discipline is way too bad.
Also, I think people are giving the Ducks way too much credit for beating the Sharks.
The Sharks are choke masters...anybody could have won a series against them.
I wan't the Wings...and I know that they will score a lot of goals on the powerplay.
Pronger/Rafalski is not a push. I think any team in the league would take Pronger in that scenario. Beauchemin has also been huge in the past. And as mentioned already, you can't ignore the goaltending. Chris Osgood is the worst goalie to backstop a team to a cup in NHL history. He is the exception when people say you can't win without great goaltending.
Sorry guys, but Ducks in 6 or 7.
P.S. When was the last time the last 3 cup winners made it to the second round?
Doc I will be honest and admit that I do not know the Ducks defensive pairings and went by what was on the web site.
Osgood is a playoff goalie. He is usually solid in the net and can come up clutch. He showed that last year when they pulled Hasek in favor of Ozzie. However, God help the Wings if Hiller is hot and Ryan's streak continues. (his nomination for the Calder is legit I say and I hate the Ducks)
Nasti, I just dislike Pronger. Rafalski has the greater amount of experience and that Is why I would take him over the gap tooth short bus rider. Once the Griffins are out of the playoffs, Kindl and Abdelkader will become available along with Leino who has a serious scoring touch and is a great third or fourth line guy for the run. Kindl, and Ericsson also can have a mean streak and Ericsson has the size to take on say Getzlaf if he chooses to drop the gloves again. Will be a Solid sereis.
MY PREDICTION- WINGS IN 6
Some keys to the series:
It starts with goaltending, Duck snipers can light up Osgood.
Hiller looks like the real deal -- big advantage Ducks there.
Ducks will have to be more disciplined -- the Wings PP is superb although Anaheims may be just as good (recently).
Ducks will struggle to score at even strength. They won't be able to send everyone to the net as the speed and skill of the Wings' counterattack will kill them. Neidermayer's floating all over the place will be very high risk.
Detroit is likely to be very rusty in game one.
I think the league will let them play and that favors Anaheim.
Both teams have playoff savvy veterans no advantage either way.
Ducks in 7 -- crap.
Wings in 6...or seven if Hiller stays hot.
It's gonna be an interesting series.
I hate the Wings with a passion.
I hate the Ducks with a passion.
But I think we're going over the top here by saying "Let's Go Wings!". What ever happened to... "Who gives a damn about either team!"?
With that said, I could care less who wins. I just hope either team doesn't win the Cup.
But if we're talking matchups... I just have this feeling that Osgood will be horrible like he was near the end of the season. I can see the Ducks winning this and pulling another "upset".
The only question in my mind is... which team would match up better against the Ducks? Would that be the Hawks or Nucks?

hiller hiller hiller. i don't care who the wings are facing, they are going to score. i really think osgood's play will be the largest factor in who wins this.
