Maybe it's politics, but it's 100% a PR problem because mainstream media is going to pick this up. For most people the vegas picture response was simply an extension of the disgust that was shown to Derek Roy when he posted this bad boy.

All seriousness if the NHL players start acting like douchebag nba and nfl players than I'm out. The rich ghetto fab bs is why I stopped watching basketball and why the fans cannot relate to these spoiled asshats. I'm not saying that the NHL doesn't have to modernize the way we perceive these athletes but going that direction is the wrong road to take.
