i don't buy the other two hypothetical statements.

all Frolov did was play the game THEY wanted him to play.

and the timing of the Ponikarovsky signing sure doesn't reek of a "targeted" player.

If Fro had played all year like he played in the playoffs, this thread wouldn't exist.

Oh, it still would. His fate was sealed long before.

you'll notice his play really picked up after the trade deadline... there's a really good reason for that, i promise.

I think he tried to, and I think it still wasn't everything that they wanted.

When you’re talking about a guy with Kovalchuk’s ability, I don’t know how exactly to describe it, but it’s almost like the other player is the stepchild. But in Ponikarovsky, we had a very good option here. He’s an important guy to get, because there weren’t any options out there, quite frankly, who fit that m.o. and have that ability. So it’s a pretty good recovery, in terms of everything we’ve been through.
He points out himself that they went to Frolov (I never denied that) but there were hurt feelings and so they went with AP.

So, if you back up to my initial post, which was a response to "What would DL say at the Breakfast with the GM", we don't have to wait, he pretty much spells it out right there.

The question that they are speaking of isn't "why did you sign Ponikarovski instead of Frolov?", it's going to be "why did you let personel reasons affect your decision making and potentially let the team suffer?"

This seriously is a very sad day for me. I'm gonna root for Fro though, even if he is in NY. I will still hope that when we get a sensible coach, Fro will come back.

One year from now, when he is a UFA again, I bet there are gonna be a LOT more of you that want him back for two reasons...

    1) You'll see what he can do when he's used properly
    2) You'll see what a HUGE hole the kings now have. Yeah we got Poni, but...

Poni sure as HELL is NO Frolov.

If the Kings had dealt with Frolov differently over the last 2 seasons, they might have had both Frolov and Ponikarovsky playing with Handzus and iced the best 3rd line in the league.
