his situation, not the player. Not getting a call as a UFA from the team you were previously with would be pretty unprofessional in my book. Better to tell the player "look management is looking for something different" and let it be. Less of the bridge burned that way.
How exactly is a GM supposed to treat and express an interest in a guy he doesn't particularly want back?
Look, you know I've never been much of a DL fan. And you might remember the epic Frolov battles I got in with Neil because I've always thought Frolov could be a franchise player with the Kings. But Frolov has run his course with the Kings. He's turned into what Modin became (a guy you love to have on the 3rd line and lament every damn day that he doesn't try hard enough to play on the top 2 lines) and I hope for his sake he can have a rennaisance the way Modin did and become a key player for whatever team he plays on.
I got over Frolov-the-King this last season and I've moved on. He won't play for the Kings at what his value is. I don't doubt that he might score 35 goals for the Rangers as they miss the playoffs once again and he just might get some sucker GM to pay him $35M on a 5 yr contract. But I believe he'll go to some team and do the same for them that he's done for the Kings: play solid on the puck, score a bunch of goals, and loaf alot.
Frolov has become that stereotypical frustrating Russian who just doesn't care enough.
I agree completely, I think the kings needed to be at 4 million to make it worth fro's while. Could the kings afford that, not sure. Within 500k of what DL probably had budgeted until the 5 million number got floated out. In any case this one had the writing on the wall the whole time. In any event last season I was prepared for his possible departure and now that it's happened I'm not surprised.
So much for finding that left winger, eh?
Now watch as Frolov pots 40 this year playing with NYR
I'm REALLY curious to see what Lombardi has in mind for Plan D.
Wow. I thought he get around $5M. $3M is an absolute steal for Fro.

Thank you Terry Murray for putting Frolov in the doghouse and making him not wanting to play here anymore! $3 million is definitely a low-risk investment for him, and I will still wear my Frolov jersey at every Kings game that I attend!
