The comparison between Columbus now and the Kings then is good. Don't know that they have a Kopitar or Brown in their pipeline though.
Yeah, I think Columbus is actually in a worse spot than the Kings were. Although, those 3 1st round picks next year could really set the foundation along with Ryan Murray and Ryan Johansen.

Only if they don't let Howson call the shots in that draft. They could seriously sink being the worse team in the NHL next spring by moving Wisnewski/Tyutin/Johnson starting in December for more prospects and picks.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Columbus should pick their core and move anyone they can to acquire picks and young players.

they should be good on the blue line with Johnson, Wiz, Murray, Nikitin and Erixon. they have Johansen, Foligno, Dubinsky, Anisimov and Dorsett up front plus a few young guys. everyone else i'd make available for picks/prospects.

that would include at least Brassard (they ruined him), Umberger, Tyutin, Aucoin (deadline) and Mason.

Commenting on how to fix c-bus is like pretending you know what's going on as you rubberneck a freight train that's smashed into a UFO that was towing the Titanic....

Can they relegate C-bus to the AHL and promote Norfolk? As wacky as the promotion/relegation business is with the soccer leagues it almost makes sense at some levels. Columbus is so bad that a stint in the minors might help them haha

What is the Bluejackets record in 2012-2013? I have not checked the sports news. As I am reading the posts it seems to me that they are in the middle of the season and they have zero wins and the worst defense in the league.

What is amazing is that the CBA must have been resolved and I missed it. How are the Kings doing?

No question Howsen shouldn't have a job, IMO. I was NOT commenting on that. I was commenting on the fact he got nothing for the trade, whether it was his fault causing Nash to ask for one. You just can't get any return in that situation. If Nash had a significantly lower salary then I can see it...however that is not the case. I'm not arguing Howsen didn't put himself in that position. I just don't think he could have "done better".

IMO, CBUS should fire his ass now, hire Hextall (if he wants to go...which I'm not sure he does) and start over with a rebuild. They should NOT being doing was Calgary is attempting to do for example.

As to Hextall: I think he wants to wait for Homer to fail in Philly....which I think will be sooner rather than later.

i also think Howson could have done better, but Dubinsky has scored 20 goals twice and he's only 26, Anisimov is 24 and already is a 15-20 goal scorer. the first round pick will likely be late and Erixon is a bit of a wild card but he's only 21. i wouldn't say it was nothing, especially at the cap hit that Nash has and that he was only willing to go to a few teams.

that's not to say that Howson shouldn't be fired - he should be. he's done far worse things to deserve being fired than the Nash trade.
