I think it was a good move by Columbus, the Rangers on the other hand will be handcuffed by this contract for many years. They got a good player but lets see how he gels with the other players.

Yuck. Terrible move for C-Bus, but pretty much par for the Howson course. This move instantly makes Columbus a worse team and there's no guarantee that it helps them in the long run. Way too many question marks exchanged for a proven all-star.

Three decent players for one good player is not a bad move. Howson was handcuffed by Nash and the entire NHL knew it. He was lucky to get these three players. He wanted Nash (disease) out of Columbus so he could rebuild. It will take him a few years but it will happen. I remember a team once that took about five years to rebuild.

poor Scott Howson can't catch a break. Glen Sather just called him Steve at the press conference about the trade.

Columbus was never built, so I'm not sure "rebuild" is the correct word choice.

Dubinsky is a good role player. Very limited in his offensive abilities. Anisimov is skilled and he has size but not much else. Erixon is a complete unknown. If this is the best that Howson could get, he should have held onto Nash until Nash really wanted out.

    Howson blinked and he lost.

That and the fact Nash is getting paid a LOT of money probably had something to do with the weak return.

He should've traded him at the deadline. I guarantee what he considered weak offers back then were probably better than the offer he took today. Timing is critical when your dealing from a position of weakness and Howsen blew it.

IF Dubinsky gets back to scoring 20+ goals
IF Anisimov can be a 15-20 goal guy
IF Erixon can be a true top-4 NHL d-man
    and
IF they find a top-6 player with that 1st round pick

    Columbus did ok.

Nash didn't want to be there and his contract is deadly. $7.8M for 6 more years is insane. Now the Rangers are paying 4 guys a total of almost $29M /year. that's nutty.

and if you look at Columbus, they now potentially have 3 first rounders next year (theirs, L.A. and NYR)

    Umberger-Johanson-Atkinson
    Foligno-Dubinsky-Anisimov
    Prospal-Brassard-Dorsett
    Calvert-Letestu-Boll

    Johnson-Wiz
    Murray-Aucoin
    Nikitin-Tyutin/Erixon

    Brobrovsky-Mason

they will likely try and trade Tyutin if Erixon is ready and if they can get a top-6 scoring winger in the next year or two they could be ok. they were going to suck with Nash, so why not try and get some guys and trade your vets (Tyutin?, Umberger?) and go real young?
