Rick Nash traded to Rangers

The first round picks from the Rangers and us could easily be the last two picks in next years draft. I dont care what Sather said about untouchables, everything is negiotable. Perhaps, Sather told Howson he owed him a favor since the Oilers hired him to run Cape Breton and then Tulsa when Slats left for Broadway. Howson should have gotten at least one of the big 4/5 we have been discussing.

If Dubinsky and Ansimov put up numbers, and Erixson develops, perhaps CBJ did alright, but sure a lot of question marks for Nash, the #1 overall pick his draft year.

This is almost as big a failure by CBJ as the Gretzky trade was for us.

The bottom line is... who cares? Some people are living in the future and nothing has happened yet.

Jones is the favored #1 Pick next summer, and is as highly touted a defenseman as they come. The problem is, they would **** him up too.

No, but if you want to match returns, we could have done it with Lewis, Clifford, Voynov, and a 1st, which is actually a better return that what New York gave up. Alas, we weren't on Nash's list, which is the problem. Howson was too nice to the player.

I don't think Howson was ever going to get Kreider, but if I were him I would have told Nash, "I don't care how badly you want to leave, until the Rangers pony up a suitable replacement, your address is in Columbus."

Should have definitely gotten Stepan or McDonagh in this deal. From what I understand San Jose was willing to send Pavelski and Clowe to Columbus. Even if that's not true, how is Pavelski + from San Jose not better than what Howson got from New York?

i actually don't think Mason was ever going to be that good. once the book got out on him he was toast.
yeah, they need to find a couple of d-mined d-men, but those guys are a little easier to get.
hopefully for C-Bus fans, Howson won't be there next year.

i don't know if Lewis, Clifford, Voynov + first is better than what NYR gave. both Dubinsky and Anisimov are proven scorers in the NHL. Lewis and Clifford are not. Voynov is better than Erixon right now, but Erixon might be considered to have a higher ceiling (not that it matters much).

i agree that Howson could have held out for more, but with Johnson and Wiz on defense, is another offensive d-man like McDonagh the guy you want as the centerpiece of the deal?
and if the proposed deal was Pavelski, a young d-man like Demers and a first, i don't necessarily think that is much better. CLM has proven that one scorer isn't going to make them a better team. they got two forwards that will play right away in their top-9.

now, if the offer was Pavelski + Clowe + first, then he took the wrong deal.

but i do think the deal should have been Stepan, Anismov, Erixon + 1st. Dubinsky was likely included because his cap hit is $4.2M.

It is but we don't know anything about what he was offered. Period. Rumors are just fodder for the internet.

I just can't judge Howsen (or any GM) that is put in that place by a star player. The trading team will lose pretty much every time.

Howsen has been a poor GM but I base that on his record (which, BTW, should include some nods toward McClean before him). So having 2 or 3 1st rounders next year isn't going to help much if the same management is running the show. Isn't Patrick on their payroll now? Davidson? I'd make them GM?Pres and move on.

The main thing is that it's really time for Clb to move on. They were as hung up as the Orlando Magic trying to deal with Howard, a star player with a difficult contract. (albeit different sides of the contract coin)
At some point it's worth it to just get what you can and move on.

But Clb really does need to restructure. The owner should look at Nashville and cringe at how far behind he is. He really needs to find a Dean Lombardi, and quick. Certainly before the trade deadline.
